He is basically being kept alive for as long as he wishes, for a while.

He is tired but comfortable.

With good reason, he's protective about that inline suction to his trach. Looks like he has the rotation bed and evidence of good trach care.

So dignified.

WC.. were you were my patient, I'd make sure you'd had it all.

His infections are not responding to any antibiotics. There is nothing left to do.

Thank you for your kindness in keeping updated. I didn't always post...but, always read your posts about his condition. Had stuff going on in own family...it's hard......it would get me crying.

Glad he is surrounded by his loved ones and DU Community...!

I know Chris and Laurie are so happy you are there. Chris has always been so kind to me, answering my posts and being supportive instead of snarky and condescending. Both being Buckeyes was a bond between us. I know that he knows how valuable he is.

These pictures made me cry; I'm so happy you were able to visit Chris but my heart breaks for him, family and friends that he is in such poor health. I was also hoping he would somehow take a turn for the better. I'm thankful he is comfortable.

It has been hard to see him in this way. I just always remember all the good times we've had, and then the tears show up.

I have never lost anyone who has been as close to me as Chris has.............and it is awful.

He and his wife are both happy I'm there. And I'm really glad I could do it.

I've been following his health crisis and so hoped that he would pull through. He's really been through the ringer and looks very tired. I've always enjoyed his posts over the years and its sad to think that he has so little time left. Please give him and his family our collective best wishes for the strength to deal with whatever comes their way!

How blessed you and this amazing man and his family are that you are friends. The circumstances are tragic but the joy of friendship and life transcend the things we cannot control.

I know your visit must be joyous and bittersweet but what a wonderful thing for you to do.

May the time he has left be filled with the love of his family and friends.

Your words ring true; this is exactly how things are for us.

Joyous and bittersweet, and how!

I could not stay away; our friendship is too deep, too important for that. We have cared for each other all these years--I had to be here. I would never have forgiven myself if I hadn't come.

How often do we actually get to say goodbye at the end, when it counts?

He is surrounded by our love and he knows it...And we are surrounded by his...

I don't like seeing him lay there in bed like that, brings back some painful memories...but glad to see him alive and recovering. You are a wonderful person Peggy. My hopes are with him.

The antibiotics no longer are effective against his infections, and they will soon be unstoppable.

I am so sorry to have to tell you this, but it is the truth.

When he goes, I want it to be like that. I'm so sorry it's come to this for him and his friends and family. We've lost too damn many DUers in the past few years.
