(22,271 posts)I've posted twice in GD on this only to watch it drop like a rock. I love DU but sometimes it seems there are way too many keyboard warriors and very few activists.
I'll be hosting them June 6-9 and of course, my air conditioning decided to die with no dinero to get it replaced. Thank goddess for window units because it will be in the triple digits this weekend.

and I agree with that statement about keyboard warriors and very few activists. I suppose the Topics groups don't get the traffic of GD, and it SHOULD be discussed "generally" prior to real activism.
I can't think of a better cause
Good luck with the event!

(28,151 posts)And I couldn't agree with your assessment of DU more. Spot on! I think most of the real world activists moved elsewhere on the net. Can't blame 'em. Frustrating to discuss real world stuff with those who haven't been there (yet know EVERYTHING about it . ).
Thanks for helping these guys out. Got a paypal account? I'd contribute to helping feed them or whatever needs there are. Just a poor baker here but everyone can do something!

(9,002 posts)I posted an OP about increasing prospects of a Dem pickup of the Senate seat in deep red MI.
Dropped like a fucking rock.
The other day I posted a piece on health groups suing Insurance groups for discriminating agains HIV+ customers in violation of the ACA.
Dropped like a fucking rock.
I'm going to start using "Glenn Greenwald and Edward Snowden walk into a bar" for my OP titles from now on.

(28,151 posts)That is one of the biggest downsides to the way DU is. With fifty threads about the current thing everyone is fighting over there is room for little else. Would be interested in the thread you mentioned regarding the Dem pick up in a red zone in MI. I happen to live in one. Just gerrymandered back into CD1, with over 30 counties (!!!), currently in Rethug hands. I sure as hell hope we increase our numbers in Congressional delegation to DC & do not even get me started on Lansing! Omg, those assholes have GOT to go!

(28,151 posts)At least in Grand Traverse county, Traverse City itself is actually pretty liberal. Outside of that it's rather discouraging.

(20,453 posts)Could this be the pacer "cell" of reclaiming democracy? Much of what comes out of CA leads the way.
Kick!

(480 posts)This is a long event. It can build. They've nailed the problem, and the solution. All the elements are there. Just keep pushing it until people start to catch on.
Le Taz Hot
(22,271 posts)by some, they've actually been treated with open arms. There was one incident, of course, but other than that, people have opened their homes, their hearts and their wallets to the marchers. Several people have joined them along the way. They were featured in the Visalia Times Delta and we've arranged a rally at Fresno's City Hall on Friday. We're hoping to get good media coverage as well.
Here is a small representational list of their many endorsements:
Derek Cressman
Dolores Huerta
Occupy Democracy Pasadena
Noam Chomsky
Lawrence Lessig
San Francisco 99% Coalition
California Clean Money Campaign
$$$Out! People In! Coalition

(9,610 posts)About 99Rise
America is in crisis, and our democracy on the auction block. Were here to do something about it.
99Rise is a network of activists and organizers dedicated to building a mass movement to reclaim our democracy from the domination of big money.
We believe that only by getting big money out of politics by winning a democracy that responds to the real needs of "the 99%" will we open the door to finally realizing the progressive promise of the American Dream.
We thus seek a Constitutional Amendment and supplemental federal legislation that would guarantee the principle of political equality, as well as ensure that neither private wealth nor corporate privilege could be used to exercise undue influence over elections and policymaking. To this end, we are committed to deploying the most powerful tool of social and political change: strategic nonviolent resistance
