Useful memory: GOP strategists labeled Tillman first a 'hero' to their base, then 'worm dirt'.

Memory Lane: How GOP strategists fueled lies about Pat Tillman to create a narrative and manipulate their voter base:

<<The left was accused of being anti-American and demons when Tillman's death was first announced. The Left Smears an American Hero,

"With the body barely cold, the Left has begun demonizing the late Pat Tillman. Tillman is the former NFL star who turned down a $3.6 million contract to join the Army Rangers after 9/11. He was killed last month in Afghanistan after Islamist soldiers ambushed his jeep. For most Americans, such noble service would qualify Tillman as a national hero, but it has unleashed a torrent of hatred on the Left."

But then reality started messing with the storyline the administration was using.

It emerged that Army investigators covered up that he was killed by "friendly fire." Then it was revealed that in fact, there was no engagement with the enemy at all - Pat Tillman was still a hero, but his death was a tragic mistake Then AP reported,

"Within hours of Pat Tillman's death, the Army went into information-lockdown mode, cutting off phone and Internet connections at a base in Afghanistan, posting guards on a wounded platoon mate, and ordering a sergeant to burn Tillman's uniform."

It finally came out that Tillman had been against Bush's policies, and was an atheist.

At this point, as Pat Tillman's family sought closure on his death, they and America watched something very disturbing. No longer the convenient cover boy for the war, Pat Tillman became instead a target of smears and attacks.

Just as Ann Coulter attacked Bobby Muller a Vietnam Veteran in a wheelchair with a pithy:
'People like you caused us to lose that war.'

Now it was Pat Tilman's turn. The leader of the second cover-up investigation called Tillman "worm dirt" because he was an atheist. Last week the extent of the Pentagon and Bush administration's mendacity became more and more clear - evidence surfaced that Tillman may have been shot at close range>>>>

How gross. Not your post, obviously, but the facts that you've exposed.

There's gotta be a rich chiropractor somewhere making a killing off of all the whiplash the GOP suffers.

and the lies until the truth came out...It was friendly fire that killed him. His journal and uniform burned! very strange.
He was an an intelligent man and saw what Afghanistan was turning into.. He was a follower of Chomsky. His family was arranging for Chomsky to meet him when his tour was up.. And he was an Atheist which the crazy ones hate.

The republicans hate the truth and they hate intelligence.. They love war as long as it is not their own going

I spit on the Republicans

No doubt they're doing the same to Bergdalh. Just another swiftboating. Listening to various call-in shows, newscasts, etc., the guy sure has an awful lot of people claiming to have been in his unit. Or, their son/father/brother in his unit. I'm sure we'll eventually hear what actually happened with this guy, but it's unfortunate that it's going to be clouded over by this organized smear campaign.

I had forgotten about this sorry GOP shit-stain on the pages of our history.

And I'll never forget how the Swift-Boaters trashed Kerry, a Vietnam-vet hero, while lauding the antics of a TANG deserter.

It wasn't an insult for being an atheist. It was a believer's take on atheism:

In an interview with ESPN.com, Kauzlarich said: "When you die, I mean, there is supposedly a better life, right? Well, if you are an atheist and you don't believe in anything, if you die, what is there to go to? Nothing. You are worm dirt. So for their son to die for nothing, and now he is no more - that is pretty hard to get your head around that. So I don't know how an atheist thinks. I can only imagine that that would be pretty tough."

He does have a point. Atheists kind of believe that, when you die, you're worm dirt. That's not the same as calling someone worm dirt for not believing.

There's nothing to "believe" at all. There simply has never been any solid evidence for an afterlife. I know that when i die I am no more, all that was me is gone forever. I am not uncomfortable with it at all, and there is no reason I should be.

Saying that we're all star stuff has a nicer ring than saying that we're all worm dirt. But ultimately, we're both.

Sure, it's still believing. The same way you believe that if you drop a coin, it will fall down and not up. The word "believe" doesn't only relate to things taken on faith, you can also believe things based on science, experience, etc.

To me it sounds wrong to say " I believe. therefore I am". I prefer to say, " I think, therefore I am ."
