An Omaha firefighter carries an elderly woman from a life raft after rescuing her from a flooded home near 16th and Ames Tuesday night.
Due to the flooding from the rain and storms, the area of 16th Street and Ames Avenue is being evacuated. Several houses are flooded.
Buses are arriving to assist. A shelter is being set up at the Florence Community Center at 2920 Bondesson St. Omaha Police Officers will be present to provide security.
Police also are requesting sandbags at 18th Street and Carter Boulevard.
Douglas County Emergency Management Agency is advising people in the 18th and Carter Lake Boulevard to seek higher ground. Authorities are sending buses to 16th and Ames to get people to shelter at the Florence Center.
