The storm hit the Organic Crop Improvement Association farm we bought a share in

http://www.iowanafarm.com/

We finished the pack yesterday at 3:30pm. Power went out at 4:20 pm and the hail storm hurricane hit at 4:25 pm. The worst part lasted about 10 to 12 minutes. But what devastation! We had almost 4 inches here in about 2 hours. So of course there was flooding and wash outs.

I will be sending out the bulletin later today and try to give an accounting of where we stand. One thing I saw in the fields this morning that breaks my heart are shredded strawberry, snap pea, pepper, cabbage and tomato plants. Many may make it back, but not all of them. And harvest will be delayed by several weeks.

Also, we still have time to plant more; it is still early in the season.

I’ll be in touch. Terry

Like you said, it is early June so there will still be time; but it still can be hard to bare. I always have a soft spot for farmers at the mercy of the weather. And of course, the organic, bee loving farmers are my favorites.
