(135,425 posts)UCMJ and Chain of Command lectures in boot camp.
The ones complaining about their Commander in Chief, their ultimate senior in the chain of command, and the Secretary of Defense, who's the senior cabinet official in their chain, don't understand the concept of military orders.
Nor do they understand that we don't base "Never leave anyone behind" on whether or not we "like" them.

(31,211 posts)be seeing the exact opposite response from the president's detractors. They'd be screaming that the POTUS deserted Sgt. Bergdahl, and that would be "the scandal". He can't win, no matter what he does, because EVERYTHING is subject to politics these days.

(7,566 posts)first, we have no proof about why he was captured by the Taliban..yet some are so eager to jump all over him and his family
and I wonder just how many of you doomsayers who seem to love to push gossip would survive 5 years of capture with the the Taliban
we do NOT leave soldiers behind...if you were that soldier.....would you doomsayers rather have died in captivity? really?
and six military soldiers did not die trying to find Bergdahl....please get you facts STRAIGHT and actually wait until we know FACTS before being so judgemental

(7,566 posts)people who post such hateful things have no operating brain.....they spout gossip like it is fact....and much of it verbatim
The BBC interviewed someone who was saying he felt betrayed by his actions but that the soldier fully supported the rescue. There are plenty in his company that are happy he is back. Chicken hawks and the clueless who forget the military code are leading the charge.

(46,416 posts)poisoning the well of goodwill toward Bergdahl with their opinions of him before he ever gets a chance to speak. Define your opponent early, old political trick. Maybe some of them are genuinely out to tell their stories, but even then, I'd expect them to show some decency and actually wait until Bergdahl makes it to the US and faces investigation. My biggest concern is that they are potentially using fallen soldiers to bolster their case, and hurting the families of those men (some of whom seem genuinely caught off-guard).

(46,416 posts)An unnamed intelligence official has been, thru Fox, inviting Congressmen to look at Bergdahl's CIA super-duper classified file that shows he has been collaborating with the enemy. Which I take to mean, stuff he did in captivity. I don't know legally/UCMJ-wise how that holds up in a POW-type situation, where they obviously could brainwash, torture, or otherwise force you to do stuff. There's a code of conduct when you are held captive, so he may have broken that. Or it could be damning stuff in terms of phone calls to his parents, girlfriend, etc. or a clear picture of intent to join the Taliban when he left, but I'm going to guess it's behavior during captivity. The first wave of Bergazi is passing, prepare for the second wave!

(20,544 posts)would be able to explain how that happens to someone held so long.
