(28,120 posts)He said fighting in the Hedgerows was extremely dangerous too. He managed to commandeer a German truck in the Hedgerows fighting. He didn't give details or talk much about it. Came back to the States and immediately married my clueless mother. I visited the D-Day Memorial in Bedford, Va with her a few years ago and she said she had no idea how dangerous it was! Too many Americans are clueless about everything.

(24,692 posts)It is particular poignant that all of this beautiful work was temporary destined to be swept away by the tide. That is just like the men who were there in 1944. They either lived there briefly and died on the beach or lived and left the beach to move on into France.
