My "Close Encounter Of The Turd Kind" With A teabagger Yesterday.

Hi. My job is working in Community Support with adults with mental illnesses. I take them out into the community so they can do the things they want to do, enjoy doing or need to do. It Does NOT pay much, but, at the same time, it's also not a very difficult job to do and I like it.

My car's back is loaded with bumper stickers touting my beliefs. I have Obama stickers from 2008 ND 2012, Ready for Hillary, ACLU, pro ACA, Michaud for Governor, Shenna Bellows for Senate ( ), and, last but not least, an old sticker that says "When Bush Took Office Gas was $1.46".

Yesterday, I was driving my client back to the office so he could fix his lunch and a van pulled next to me and the guy started shouting something to me that I couldn't hear. At the light I pulled next to him and asked what he said and he asked how I felt when gas was $3.75 under Obama. I told him that I felt a hell of a lot better then than when it was $4.29 under George W Shithead. He said that at least Shithead kept us safe and I said that about 3000 American families didn't feel safe while Bush read "My Pet Goat" as their loved ones burned to death. He said that Obama was a Kenyan socialist and I told him to take it back to his teabagger rally and that there should be one starting in about 14 seconds and put my window up. I can only deal with just so much idiocy in one dose. I'm surprised that I didn't hear that we had to "fight'em over there before we had to fight'em over here"!

I know that the teabaggers are still out there and, newsflash, they are NEVER going away! That doesn't mean that I have to let their drivel go unanswered OR that I have to respect them in the least. Our local Democratic Chairlady points out that the teabaggers' beliefs are sincere. I always counter that by saying that the beliefs of the Salem witch hunters were sincere also...and THEY were BS, too!

That's my 2 cents...and quite possibly overpriced at that!

PEACE!

I quite writing letters to the editor after that though. I'm too old to be ambushed by some igiot with a problem with the truth. In the late 90's I was at a stop light when a very young man in uniform saw my bumper stickers and rolled down his window. He said, "Everyone in my platoon voted for Bush. He'll protect the country." I said, "He'll probably start a war and you'll change your mind then! I'm old enough to remember Vietnam, and you really don't know what you're talking about...but tell me what you think 10 years from now."

I've always wondered what happened to that guy.

My father went to college on the GI Bill after WWII, was a Major in the army, and was as conservative as you could get, but after Korea and Vietnam...he changed. He hated it when I burned my draft card, etc. but towards the end of his life he really started questioning the fake wars and growing military. He was seriously worried about the growth of the CIA and FBI.

Most of these tea baggers are the product of years of propaganda, social conditioning, and misinformation.

Thanks for doing the job you do too!

there were about 400 non-US deaths on 9/11 included in the nearly 3,000.

I hear all the time about the 3,000 Americans that died. And I try to correct that whenever possible.

Sorry for that, and the correction takes nothing away from your response as " . . . 3,000 familes didn't feel safe while Bush . . . " is just as significant as ". . . 3,000 American familes . . .".

Second, in case you're interested, I just finished (and enjoyed) this book, which is a history/personal narrative about the John Birch Society. Among other things, it convinced me that we've always had teabaggers, the difference is "just" that now they're the mainstream of the Republican party.

It gets so tiring listening to the same drivel coming out of the mouths of the teabaggers. I saw a picture yesterday on DU that was of the rear end of a car with a bumper sticker that read "Democrats, we're not perfect, but they're crazy." Sorry to say that is so true. My son is a teabagger and works for the government. He doesn't appreciate what he is getting by working for them by going on and on about all the bad things Obama does. Then he says the science isn't there for global warming. Social Security is a pyramid scheme. I love my pyramid scheme, by the way. Medicare should be privatized. Dems are bad for the economy. It goes on and on. Yet, he does not offer any solution to make things better. Cut costs by cutting defense is my argument. Do it for ten years and our government would be running surpluses. Have the Pentagon find the Trillions that are missing and unaccounted for and not offer pay raises to the brass until the money is accounted for. Teabaggers are like a virus. Take two Tylenol and hopefully they will go away.

Bush kept us safe? Pardon me?

First, 911 ("You've covered your ass...&quot and the rest of his terms were filled with those damnable warning lights measuring the level of threats by the terrorists. Of course we must keep in mind that most of those happened when Cheney or Bush needed to divert attention from their shenanigans.

Every time I hear "Bush kept us safe" I want to scream!!!! It appears to me that Obama has also kept us safe and hasn't used one warning light...not even amber.

Sheesh!

"sincere"

They are intense, yes. Sincere, no, not when they deny reality, and offer falsities in their stead. No, one cannot be sincere and dishonest at once. It is a form of madness. And, i may be an alarmist, but your physical safety may be at risk in such interactions.

I have removed bumper stickers from my car after instant, irrational, extreme verbal assaults. Also, the police on the streets near my residence are over-diligent in stopping vehicles, most of it for revenue, but they are hunting

resist the urge to reply. Most often it's just attempts to educate a bad driving habit -which is usually just as fruitless...like talking to a crash test dummy.

But I definitely would not engage someone when I had a passenger with me, like a client, or family member. If things turned ugly, it's not fair to them to get dragged into it. (I speak from experiences, like when a girlfriend was driving me around and pissed off a policeman. I was the one forced to get out and up against the car to be searched)

Sadly, and ironically in the home of 'freedom of expression,' total strangers feel they have the right to attack verbally or actually based solely on the car you drive or the messages on your bumper. Was this way in the sixties as well as today...

So, stay safe out there.

I was driving the speed limit, in the far right lane, on an Interstate through an urban area. Light traffic. A PU came up behind me, tailgated for a mile, then pulled into the left lane and roared up beside me. He was screaming something out the passenger window at me, but I couldn't hear as my driver window was up and I was ignoring him anyway. After 10 or 15 seconds of screaming, he cut sharply to the right and ran me onto the shoulder. I was too busy keeping my car under control to get a license #. This happened during leadup to '08 GE, I had a small Obama sticker in my back window which I assume is what set him off. This was before the teabagging party started, but was an eye-opening incident that previewed the wingnuts becoming quite unhinged.

I live in Maine (I gather you do too!) I have a 20 year old Honda del sol. The back bumper is covered with bumper stickers....Obama Biden, "I think therefore I am a democrat", several marriage equality stickers, "Jesus was a Jewish liberal", "Obama is not a brown-skinned anti-war socialist that wants to give everyone free healthcare. . . you're thinking of Jesus", and many others. (sometimes I wish my car was bigger - more room for bumper stickers!!).

I have been pleasantly surprised that the ONLY comments I have received have been very positive. I am now used to strangers coming up to me in parking lots telling me how much they love my bumper stickers.....one person even left a note under my windshield wiper that said "I just love your bumper stickers. They are great!" Of course, I do live in southern Maine which is quite liberal.

They may be indoctrinated with propaganda but we all hear it. You just have to be downright stupid to believe it; or in the case of Obama-bashing, more likely racist.

I passed some idiot last week with a bumper sticker that said 'Impeach Obama'. I really wanted to ask him 'For what?' He hasn't broken the law (more than you can say about Bush/Cheney). They just hate, pure and simple. So be careful. These are not rational people.

Don't EVER let them get the last word!!! If I ran MSNBC, I'd cast that one in bronze, have it ground into the marble walls in the lobby of NBC News at 30 Rock, and mandate that ALL talent and other on-camera types agree to that contractually. Don't EVER let what they say stand unchallenged or unquestioned. Because if that's permitted, if THAT is what's allowed to stand when the segment ends, and if THAT is the last thing people remember hearing or seeing, THAT is what's going to stick. THAT is the message that will be the takeaway. Plus it'll trigger the unconscious reaction - "well, you didn't say anything. Guess it must be true, then."

NEVER let that shit stand.
