Tea party takeover of Texas GOP is nearly complete

After all, a lot of these folks were the extreme activists that dominate the discussions during the formulation of the party platform at state conventions. They talk about leaving the United Nations (as well as the IMF, WTO and practically every other international organization and treaty) and returning to the gold standard.

Well, the staunch right, the fringe, the libertarians and the tea party have formed a coalition that’s causing havoc in the Texas Republican Party — and they like it.

Pundits have been asking about the whereabouts of traditional Republicans in the primary process. They seem to be invisible. They used to control the party through the same low-turnout model in place now. Texas voter turnout has always been freakishly poor.

“It has served conservative business interests well to minimize turnout,” said Southern Methodist University political scientist Cal Jillson. “Now you’ve got a sort of right-wing populist movement overrunning the barricades, and no one is more concerned about this than the business community and traditional Republicans in the Republican Party.”

The 2012 version of the Texas GOP party platform was already a pretty scary document. Hard to imagine what the 2016 version will look like.

The poor, poor republican establishment in Texas.

have to suffer through this as well….sadly, the south has an inordinate amount of (seemingly) in-bred stupidity.

But, I agree with your statement…at some point, you have to let stupidity reign to kick the ass of the lazy populace.

I'm doing my part to get Democrats out to vote, and our club has actually helped in keeping the tea part out of several local offices. Unfortunately, the county party refuses to get involved in "non-partisan" races even when the Republicans (TeaIdiots) are actively involved….

The Powers That Be totally don't get the whole 'fight fire with fire' concept…they stay all nice and milk-toasty like they have for the past 20-25 years…and then they wonder why Democrats don't win.

Democrats don't win when you won't fight back and take a strong stand.

You want votes, motivate the voters…show them that you care and will stand up to the Republicans.
