Breaking. Shooting at Seattle Pacific University

Just got text from kid.

Edit to add

SEATTLE -- At least four people have been shot at Seattle Pacific University and a suspect is in custody, Seattle police said.

The incident happened just after 3 p.m. near the intersection of 3rd Ave. West and West Nickerson Street. Police report two victims were at Otto Miller Hall.

SPD says one person was in custody on the SPU campus and that officers and medics were on the scene. SPU officials report the campus was on lockdown and police are still searching campus for any potential additional suspects.

The situation is still fluid and more details will be posted as they become available.

shooting began at the Otto Miller Hall, the Math, Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, and Science building.

One of the shooters has been taken to Harborview, along with the six other victims.

Witness is saying that the some of the people (who she knows) were running from the back of the building, where senior engineering students were working.

the lone shooter was injured and has been transported to Harborview.

Details are now becoming confusing, as usual in an incident such as this.

They're saying that there were actually only four victims...one man and one woman in stable condition, one man and one woman with life-threatening injuries. This reported by Harborview spokesman.

One witness says that she saw a man dead on the floor in the hall. Lying face down in a pool of blood. She's not positive that he was dead, but he was not moving.

Parents try and ensure that their kids receive a good education, but also have to worry about some fanatic mowing them down, anywhere, anytime. The victims of today's gun violence were apparently engineering students, seniors preparing for graduation.

I'm glad to hear that your child is safe, but as you've stated, other families must now struggle thru an unnecessary tragedy. Fear.

Thu Jun 5, 2014, 08:02 PM
Jun 2014

She called in and was giving her account on KOMO. She knew many of the people who were running away from the gunfire, but was not on the same floor when it began (shooting happened on the second floor, she was on the first). Two of the victims were students that she knew well, they tried to give aid to the injured before they were brought downstairs, while swat searched the building. One may have been faculty, but she couldn't see his face.

Harborview is now saying that they're expecting another victim to arrive there and King County Jail seems to be processing a suspect.

All details taken with grain of salt, til the actual report is released. Press conference coming up soon.

I did know SPU fairly well, from years ago when I lived down there; I had a couple of friends who attended and graduated. It was a nice little school back then.

Gunshot wounds are generally traumatic by their very nature.

Another sad example of how we have fallen. Why can't victims of gun violence start filing lawsuits against the gun manufacturers and NRA? It's how we finally toppled big tobacco.

The first billion dollar judgment against the NRA or Glock will go a long way.

There you have Fox and ReTHUGs frightening people non-stop about the Taliban and Muslims while 'good Xtian white boys' (the vast majority of shooters) are slaughtering people's children on college campuses, in schools, in cinemas, malls, etc. This is madness.

AUTOMATED MESSAGE: Results of your Jury Service

On Thu Jun 5, 2014, 08:18 PM an alert was sent on the following post:

lets pray it's not one of the taliban guys that were released
http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=5055208

REASON FOR ALERT

This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.

ALERTER'S COMMENTS

Wow. Can you top insensitivity with this, even if this post was intended as a joke? Tying the Bowe Bergdahl prisoner swap with this shooting? Seriously?

(But the 2nd part of this post that mentioned Sandy Hook is a valid point. But the first point...way over the top.)

You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Thu Jun 5, 2014, 08:33 PM, and the Jury voted 1-6 to LEAVE IT.

Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: It was not over the top. I do not get the point of this alert.
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Maybe insensitive, but the poster is clearly being sardonic. This isn't hide-worthy.
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #4 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: That's a lame and muddled connection to make, but lame and muddled is not the same as hide-able.
Juror #7 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given

Thank you very much for participating in our Jury system, and we hope you will be able to participate again in the future.

I always want to hope that it will never happen again, but instead, it's becoming an all-too-frequent occurrence.
