The Hill ?@thehill 11mWhite House: No evidence Bergdahl fraternized with Taliban http://j.mp/TjKUq4 by @JTSTheHill
_____ A senior White House aide said Thursday he had seen no evidence to confirm a report that rescued Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl converted to Islam, fraternized with the Taliban, and declared jihad during nearly five years of captivity.
We have seen no evidence of that, deputy national security adviser Tony Blinken told CNN when asked about a Fox News report about Bergdahls conduct while imprisoned by the Taliban.
Blinken went on to say it was repugnant that critics were drawing conclusions about Bergdahls service before military investigators had a chance to determine all the facts.
The idea that we are trying Sergeant Bergdahl in the court of public opinion in abstentia, without giving him an opportunity to give his story and to tell us what happened, frankly, I find repugnant, Blinken said. We don't know what happened. We are determined to get to the bottom of it. The military will investigate appropriately. Let's get the facts before we rush to judgment.

We must not confuse dissent with disloyalty. We must remember always that accusation is not proof and that conviction depends upon evidence and due process of law. We will not walk in fear, one of another. We will not be driven by fear into an age of unreason, if we dig deep in our history and our doctrine, and remember that we are not descended from fearful men not from men who feared to write, to speak, to associate and to defend causes that were, for the moment, unpopular.
Edward R. Murrow, See It Now (1954).

. . . but there's going to be a period in folks' lives when these questions about conduct during war become less important as the horror of the conflict sinks in over time and reconciliation becomes an integral part of healing and understanding.
