8 conservatives who hated Obama for not releasing Bergdahl — and now hate Obama for freeing him

From Vox (complete article at link)

President Obama's deal to secure the release of American POW Bowe Bergdahl from Afghanistan in exchange for the release of five Taliban prisoners from Guantanamo Bay may have set a landspeed record for "fastest descent into a partisan foodfight." The issue has become utterly, totally partisan, with Republicans and conservative media slamming Obama for the move — demonstrated by these hilariously hypocritical tweets by conservatives who had previously attacked Obama for not releasing Bergdahl now attacking him for doing exactly the thing they'd wanted him to do. They're worth highlighting not pick on conservatives, but to illustrate the psychology of partisanship and how it's driving the Bowe Bergdahl debate.

Majority.fm's Matt Binder and LobeLog contributor Derek Davison noticed something funny: just before Bergdahl was released, conservatives on Twitter loved to blast Obama for not freeing Bergdahl. There was even a whole meme on conservative Twitter saying Bergdahl was "abandoned by this administration."

But all of a sudden after Bergdahl was released, these people changed their tune. Here's 8 particularly choice examples that Binder and Davison dug up:

Did those who blasted the President for not freeing Bowe Bergdahl know about the accusations that have come out against him the past week?

The recently disseminated propaganda you are referring to has been debunked. http://thehill.com/policy/defense/208440-white-house-no-evidence-bergdahl-fraternized-with-taliban#ixzz33ozmNQoL

The facts about Bergdahl have been known for years. The fact that he left the base of his own free will was pretty much known for 5 years. The most comprehensive article on Bergdahl's background was by Hastings in Rolling Stone in 2012.
http://m.rollingstone.com/politics/news/americas-last-prisoner-of-war-20120607

The prisoner swap deal involving these 5 particular Taliban GITMO detainees has been in the works for years. No GOP objected. It kept falling apart though because of disagreement among the Taliban factions. Some wanted more Taliban released, others didn't want the deal at all because they did not want to give the Afghan government what appeared to be a success (the Taliban want to overthrow the Afghan government). But it wasn't because the GOP didn't want it. John McCain himself said in February of this year he favored the swap of these 5 Taliban for Bergdahl.

http://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/mccains-reversals-bowe-bergdahl

What they didn't know, what nobody could have anticipated, was that the right wing smear machine would cravenly seize on this successful recovery of an American POW as a way to attack Obama. Because God forbid Obama should ever be seen as having a success (the GOP is much like the Taliban in that regard). So almost overnight, in mid-twitter post a lot of times, the GOP changed positions on the prisoner swap. They hired swiftboat scumbags like Grenell to find folks to get on cable news and bad mouth Bergdahl. They fed made up shit to a lazy press. Slowly all that shit is being debunked.

So, giving you the benefit of the doubt, it appears you never heard the debunking, seeing as how all you read is the Daily News.

But if you keep shitting on Bergdahl threads after being repeatedly told the truth, with links, then we'll all know who you are.

Seriously. The conservatives are slandering this guy and essentially trying and convicting him in their own little court of crazy. They don't care about the facts. The sole aim of the conservative movement these days is to oppose anything and everything President Obama does, and they're really embarrassing themselves.

But in this case, many on the left are making this a case as well. The Daily News is moderate left and had it on their front page Wednesday.

Other than Feinstein being miffed that she was not included (more of an ego thing there, as I discussed with you in another Bergdahl thread), I can't think of any other prominant person who anyone here would consider "left" that buys any of the GOP bullshit on Bergdahl. The Daily News is not a progressive newspaper.

There are two separate issues here. The first is the commitment we make to bringing POWs home.
The second is his conduct as a soldier. The military will investigate that conduct and proceed according to their regulations.

We don't leave someone in a POW situation because talking heads choose to try him in the court of public opinion. If this is seriously how you think we should operate, consider what a horrible precident it would make.

If an American soldier did something wrong, he shall be tried by a military court... in America!

Those talibs have been in prison for many years. Why haven't they been charged with something and tried in court?

It would have made no difference. No matter what the outcome of this situation the right would have painted Obama as the bad guy. If Obama had come out and said "We know that Bowe Bergdahl is a traitor and therefore we are leaving him in the hands of the Taliban" the right would have been screaming about "innocent until proven guilty... no one left behind... why does Obama hate our soldiers... ... ... BENGHAZI!!!!!!!"

Frankly your question wasn't really very "honest". Anyone who hasn't been living under a rock for the last 10 years knows the Republican playbook by now.

the man has family who don’t deserve having their loved one trapped as a prisoner of war in a foreign country. If for no other reason, the trade was the right thing to do.

Me - I've never been approached about being a paid RW troll. Does it pay well? Are there benefits? Dental, in particular?

The tweeters? I think they are just conservatives who know that they hate our President and otherwise think no more deeply than Rush or Beck or Billo or Hannity or Lars Larsen or Laura Ingraham or Michael Savage tell them to think. If they are paid trolls, I don't think they are earning their money.

that will say absolutely anything to smear the Democratic Party. It's disgusting. The man was a POW for 5 years and they can't even wait to get facts before starting the hate machine up. I wonder if he announces he is a Republican if it would shut them the hell up.
