One of the most effective birth control methods, which allows many low income women to have sex without getting pregnant, is at risk of being banned.[The measure] would institute a sweeping ban on insurance coverage for abortion in state residents public and private health plans. Restricting womens ability to use their insurance plans to pay for abortion is becoming an increasingly popular anti-choice strategy and Ohios proposed legislation may actually go even further. The measure would also make it harder for low-income women to afford the most effective form of birth control.
House Bill 351, which was the subject of a committee hearing on Tuesday, seeks to prohibit insurance plans from covering drugs or devices used to prevent the implantation of a fertilized ovum. That definition effectively bans several types of contraception, like the birth control pill and the IUD.
The bills sponsor, Rep. John Becker, says an IUD is a form of abortion, but then basically admits he has no idea what hes talking about: This is just a personal view. Im not a medical doctor, he said.

(9,231 posts)The ones in the 1970s had a design flaw that led to frequent infections, the current ones are very safe, probably safer than the Pill.
My daughter had a Mirena hormonal IUD and loved it; totally effective, brain-free and with the delightful side effect of little or no periods. She had it removed so she could get pregnant again. Just had her 2nd child and she intends to get another one as soon as she can, it's safe for breast-feeding too. She told me she's done having kids but the Mirena is better than getting her tubes tied because it cures her painful periods.

These idiots don't want to pay for the raising/education of these children.
They are psychotic and should not be making laws for this country!

(3,287 posts)a damn book and read up on it, maybe even talk to a lady doctor so at least you have a basic idea of what it is you're proposing. You are either extremely stupid or incredibly lazy. Neither of which makes you qualified to represent your constituents. I pity them.
