Georgia courthouse shooter had bombs, assault rifle, sheriff says

Damn, one WTF after another. And we're supposed to just casually accept open carry?

http://www.cnn.com/2014/06/06/justice/georgia-courthouse-shooting/

Atlanta (CNN) -- A man armed with explosives and an assault rifle might have entered a north Georgia courthouse Friday if not for a deputy who was wounded in the shootout with the gunman, Forsyth County Sheriff Duane Piper said.

Authorities killed Dennis Marx outside the courthouse, Piper said during a news conference, adding that the gunman planned to wreak more havoc once inside the building.

"Mr. Marx's intention was to get in that front door and take hostages," he said.
The suspect began a "frontal assault" on the building by driving up, throwing out "homemade spike strips" to delay any police response, and trying to run over a deputy, Piper said.

Marx then began firing through his windshield, hitting the deputy in the leg, the sheriff said. He also threw gas grenades -- perhaps pepper grenades -- during the attack and had flex ties and water in his possession, according to the sheriff.

But it would seem that this guy has sort of invited some scrutiny from our faultless law enforcement officers. It would be a shame if any of his compatriots didn't get a little visit from the authorities.

no difficulty with 'probable cause' surveillance. What I object to is, as you said, 'baseless surveillance.' The latter really annoys me, everyone put through a sieve of some kind for no reason as if the majority of us are one of them, whomever.

Members of a hate group, then maybe they need to be watched in case they were readying themselves for a bigger crime.

I don't know if it was to sheriff's dept, courthouse, or media. Maybe there was a "we" mentioned in the call.

WSB reporters near Eagle Creek Shores subdivision are reporting "loud booms" near his house. SWAT and deputies just started the entrance to his house there.

We all know how rumors start to fly after something like this. Thankfully, Atlanta news is not quick to report such rumors.

MSNBC and CNN need to take lessons from our local news.

If this sovereign yahoo thought he was a one man army, he thought wrong. An old veteran deputy ended his day pretty damn quickly. The rest of those militia nuts would fall about as fast if they were to come into a battle with trained law enforcement or military.

I don't think these people live in the real world. His attorney wanted him to have a psychological evaluation, but he refused.

they just "adopt" them because it sounds like they fit the agenda they have set.

The man was a whack job, plain and simple. We have an abundance of them in this county.

This county votes 90% republican every election. There aren't even DEM candidates on the ballots. They elect the loudest, whackiest candidate who will agree with them, then spend the entirety of their term savagely berating those same candidates because they voted against a pet peeve of theirs.

These people hate themselves and everyone they ever meet.

The only beliefs they have are the ones they cook up in their sick and demented minds on a daily basis.

There was a candidate that was Republican running against two others. One of the others sounded like a tea party nutjob. I wanted to vote against that person, but I ended up voting in the Dem primary.
