The upside of Discussionist as opposed to DU.

DU is still my #1 seed, but the arguments that break out here are usually of the circular firing squad, internecine warfare variety. At Discussionist I know that when I'm arguing it's with a Repug, neocon, or other iteration of conservative asswipe. I enjoy making them look foolish, and as long as I'm able to refrain from telling them to fuck off, eat shit, and die; I get to keep doing so. I guess what I'm saying is that, at least for me, it's more fun to get in a pissing contest with a Repug than with a fellow Dem.
(And yeah, I know that there are trolls here, but MIRT, juries, and sometimes the trolls themselves have a way of taking care of that particular problem.)

Discussionist makes me absolutely love my fellow DUers, even the ones I've had some nasty arguments with. Its refreshing to take on the real enemy once in awhile.

it becomes clearer and clearer to me each day they are wrong on absolutely everything

and most of the time what they are wrong about is deadly...

I have no more patience or tolerance for these assholes. I prefer to avoid them for my (and their) own good.

to disrupt flying under the radar here. Also, those who have been trying to undermine this website are getting slapped down to size there.

Namely: the attempt to make people with whom you disagree look foolish for fun. I've argued with conservatives before (back in 1999 and 2000, when CNN had a crazy-ass, Wild West message board that they had to close down). The jousting and stabbing with a well-placed barb— or, better yet, FACT—was initially satisfying, but it wore extremely thin after a while. Why? Because these morons kept coming back with the same deluded arguments. You can't convince someone of anything on the Internet, of that I'm certain. Most times, you just make them dig their heels into their ideologies more deeply. (See "the attackers made me support Snowwald even more" threads here.)

And are you sure THEY think they've been made to look foolish by you? They are probably back at their home bases declaring how fun it was to make a "librul" look foolish.

I just don't find any of it "fun." So I guess I'll give it a pass.

I just don't have the time or patience to deal with that kind of shit.

Also, my doctor says to avoid stressful situations.

The conservatives do not understand facts or how to use facts in a discussion. When they do use facts, it is fun to actually read their links and show them why they are still wrong.
