against Bergdahl!!!
So let's breakdown what Kimberly Guilfoyle is implying since she is too brain dead to realize it herself. Miss Guilfoyle is basically saying she would have expected U.S. troops to convict and execute a fellow service member without an official military trial. In other words, engage in illegal vigilante justice or murder. Miss Guilfoyle is suggesting U.S. troops would, quite naturally, engage in a war crime on their fellow service member and they would be right to do so. This plays right into Bergdahl's assertions against the characters of the service personnel he was supposedly trying to get away from when he left.
So which is it? Were the troops Bergdahl served with in Afghanistan strict followers of military guidelines, above reproach, unworthy of desertion or were they capable of any breech of proper military conduct and international war crime conventions based on their feelings?

(66,294 posts)I was a bit of an Army misfit; I liked poetry, Shakespeare, classical music, drinking wine (instead of cheap beer or rot-gut liquor, like a lot of other tankers), and I butted heads with a lot of guys for not embracing their "kill all fags and brown people" maxim.
I got a lot of "If we're ever in combat, you're the first person I'll shoot!" from guys who were supposed to be my comrades-in-arms.
Well, we never made it into combat, but when our base in Saudi Arabia was scudded in February, 1991, those same guys were all saying: "Oh shit, man! This is real! We could all fucking DIE!"
The prospect of actual killing can change one's attitude towards it.

(4,840 posts)Did you have a plan for dealing with those threats if you ever face combat? That would have totally cured me of any feelings of duty or obligation to America. No way is a military full of sociopaths going to pass mustard with me. I don't care what I signed. I'm outta there!

(66,294 posts)It was all just a lot of hot air from hot-headed kids who thought making insanely aggressive threats made them all that.
We did a lot of training exercises in the Saudi desert after arriving from Germany, and we concentrated on getting trained up. When not actively training, we were either bored out of our skulls, or marveling at the exotic, beautiful Arabian desert.
Anyway, I was a tank crewman. Killing one of your own under cover of combat would be a bone-stupid thing to do. And even a 'dumb-ass tanker' wouldn't be stupid enough to kill the guy who loads the tank gun, cleans and maintains the machine guns, and operates the radio and pre-sets the frequencies. When facing the prospect of combat, teamwork trumps schoolyard taunting every time.

The armed service community should demand a retraction and apology.
