Pentagon officials probing claims that eight soldiers died while looking for Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl have confirmed two troops from his unit died while the search was underway, but not while they while they were on patrol, a senior defense official told Fox News Friday.
Bergdahl was held by the Taliban for five years before being released last week in exchange for five Taliban Guantanamo detainees. Since his release, members of Bergdahls unit at the time of his disappearance have said he was a deserter and claimed eight men died as a result of the search for him.
The official said the two soldiers in Bergdahls unit who died were in a combat outpost that was attacked. The official said it was impossible to prove a link between their deaths and Bergdahl's disappearance."

Like I say, put away the popcorn and take out the candied almonds, this GOP on Military propaganda war is going to be awesome.
Fox is dropping the issue like a hot tamale, who in the RW can dispute facts from the Holy Military of America as reported by their very own propaganda leaders?
In case you miss it, note how the Foxy title has little to do with the main facts that the two soldiers died when their base came under attack, during the TIME frame of the search......cons have no concept of time, the more linear it is, the less they understand of it.

(Why do I always feel so dirty after posting a Fox News link, even a factual one...?)
Edit thought: how many soldiers died Saving Private Ryan but Saving Private Bergdahl, the only
American soldier in captivity on the entire planet at the end of a promised 2 year "excursion" that turned into 13 years of war against a force America was never at war with in the first place and were once our beloved bearded allies, is an impeachable offence.....only when the media have totally and collectively lost their minds it is.
Edit info: The Maximum Penalty For Most Serious Desertion Is Five Years Imprisonment
No mention of imprisonment with the Taliban until death. Time served of 5 years imprisoned by the Taliban would seem more than enough punishment though, who would say not?
Uniform Military Code of U.S. Military
Article 85 - Desertion. (This is the most serious of the absentee offenses. Remember the primary difference between AWOL and desertion is intent to remain away from the military permanently.)
(1) If a member deserted, but voluntarily returned to military control: Dishonorable discharge, forfeiture of all pay and allowances, reduction to the lowest enlisted grade, and confinement for 2 years.
(2) If the member deserted and the desertion was terminated by apprehension: Dishonorable discharge, forfeiture of all pay and allowances, reduction to the lowest enlisted grade, and confinement for 3 years.
(3) If the member deserted with the intent to avoid hazardous duty or to shirk important service (and example of this would be a member ordered to deploy to Iraq and then deserts to avoid the deployment): Dishonorable discharge, forfeiture of all pay and allowances, reduction to the lowest enlisted grade, and confinement for 5 years.
(4) If the member deserts during time of war: Death or such other punishment (such as life in prison) as a court-martial may direct.
In Bergdahl's case it is common ground that sub (4) does not apply as an official Congressional deceleration of war confirmed by the President is required.

(53,661 posts)They rail against all and any peace time use of the military to do things that are of use to Americans. Obama tried since 2009 to change military funding for killing and employ veterans for jobs in infrastructure of all kinds. Americans have paid fo them to have skills that can be applied to helping our own country.
Some of the hysteria was immediate, saying troops were too dangerous to bring home, that when they came home they'd attack Americans to bring the NWO. The squalling and disinformation has never stopped.
Yes, they are still fighting those in the military who believe in following the Constitution. There's nothing there that calls for a permanent state of war against all nations who don't agree with us.
Or for pre-emptive wars that end up enriching the MIC and network owners, who are incestously linked.

(30,058 posts)the Obama Administration and this is where the truth takes them. They run out with their lies but probably never to back and retract their inaccuracies. Issa will probably try to set up investigations not to get to the truth but to build more false RW talking points.

(30,058 posts)Military, they do a very good job, now if we had a functioning Congress we could have this nation on track.

(23,946 posts)engage the enemy in this propaganda war, a war not the making of their Commander In Chief, now under propaganda siege......they on the RW did not think this one out very well...not very well and all and already they are retreating, you can sense it and see it in the lowering of tone.

(31,963 posts)Because it fits their current narrative. The military also said Pat Tillman was killed by the Taliban and that Jessica Lynch was a big hero. Those lasted a long time until they fell apart.

(28,784 posts)more to the point, a Rear Admiral stated, when this started, that the military does not leave soldiers behind when they can get them. If the guy has to answer for what he did - that's for a military tribunal to decide, not public opinion shaped by the Republican Party and Fox News.
I have no particular love for many aspects of the military or their actions - but the point is that incident reveals what low life bottom feeder mud suckers the GOP has become.
It wouldn't matter, it seems, what the particulars of a situation may be - whatever the situation may be, the GOP will use it to attack the President.
They started this with the Clinton administration - that was when the convergence of Rush Limpballs, Ann Coulter (tho then behind the scenes), and the talibornagain GOP demonstrated they are no longer a party fit to govern this nation.
The GOP has demonstrated they do not deserve the offices to which they have been elected by treating policy, including an end to the Bush wars, as political opportunities.
They demonstrate no states-person qualities.
They all look like rubes from some tiny town in the U.S. that has never experienced the world outside their snake-handling congregation. They do not show any capacity to govern one of the most powerful nations, if not the, in the world.
They should not even be on school boards - even at the most basic level of governance, they demonstrate they do not deserve to have any voice when anyone else's rights are concerned, or when we the people need representation that isn't mired in medieval preoccupations and fears.
The GOP needs to go home, grow up, get rid of the extremists, and maybe then they'll deserve a place at the table of governance.
For now - the best thing for this nation is to vote out the GOP whenever possible. In districts where this is not possible, we just have to try to deal with their existence in govt. like you deal with the crazy uncle.

(7,886 posts)The Military, or Fox news?
Fred Sanders
(23,946 posts)has to be checked by the source and it's credibility and reliability contrasted with other sources.
But who does that anymore and combine it with critical thinking?
Info. and misinfo. are so easy to come by now, critical thinking remains unchanged.
