and ultimately, a very sick society. Putting children in prison, especially adult prisons, is just wrong. I'm not saying it is on par with stoning women who marry without their father's consent, but the US is down in the gutter with such countries as Pakistan, Saudi Arabia et al when it comes to its justice system.

In 2002, approximately 126,000 juveniles were incarcerated in youth detention facilities alone.[1] Approximately 500,000 youth are brought to detention centers in a given year.[
