Thanks To GOPPERS Public TV Slipping Badly

Our two local PBS stations seem to be in constant fund raising mode these days. And the programming has slipped compared to years ago. Fewer new programs and tons of endless repeats. And cheaper shows abound. I see little new programming in the works. A lot of programs are more than a year old and some are many years old. Rick Steves shows are mostly repeat and some are more than 10 years old. The same seems to be true of the Maxa series.

PBS looks like it is going the way of cable with few new shows and endless repeats. Science programs have all but disappeared.
Sequestration and GOP sabotage has really hurt badly in my opinion. Nothing is sacred to these people and they are intent on making this a dark country in so many ways.

I know I have 300 channels at least and watch about 10 of them. NBC, CBS, ABC, Lifetime, HN (Home network), Hallmark, MSNBC, CNN (sometimes), USA, A&E and TNT. I watch "public TV" in January when Downton Abbey starts but as soon as they release the DVDs, which is about 2 weeks after the show starts, I watch the DVDs.

Anytime they have what we call "Begging Week" (which includes both weekends) we know not to bother watching.

When I was a kid we couldn't wait for the pledge drives, because that's when they would bring out the best programming. When it was over, we'd say how we couldn't wait for the next pledge drive.

You are right, they used to bring out the best quality programs that you couldn't wait to watch.

Tonight is another disaster.....and I grew up during the time that all the oldies were new. But how many times can I watch the same worn out programs.

PBS was great when I was a kid, a window to the world. At first, cable television was, as well.

But the conservatives couldn't allow enlightenment. They also fund faux enlightenment and esoteria like CT to replace the place formerly held by science, real world observation and those busy offering solutions to real problems, not just doing political propaganda.

They want us in the sewer and the stench is nausating.

It was pretty amazing to watch them hit their initial funding goal in less than 24 hours, and then doubled it in less than 48.
