Las Vegas rampage leaves five dead, including two police officers

http://www.latimes.com/nation/la-na-las-vegas-shooting-20140609-story.html

Two killers — a man and a woman — walked into a pizzeria here at midday, beginning a bloody Sunday rampage that left five people dead, including two on-duty police officers ambushed as they were having lunch.

"The revolution is about to start," one of the killers shouted after the pair had gunned down the officers and grabbed their weapons and ammunition and stormed into a nearby Wal-Mart. An unidentified woman was shot and killed just inside the Wal-Mart, police said. As frantic shoppers scrambled and fell to the floor while trying to reach the store's back exits, the pair stalked the aisles, exchanging fire with arriving officers.

And in a bizarre final chapter, the two staged a murder-suicide as waves of armed officers moved in. Authorities say the woman shot her male accomplice and then turned the gun on herself.
You don't think this kind of thing can happen. It's a Sunday ... and all of a sudden a man walks in and starts shooting up a Wal-Mart. - Alize Harper, 16, a witness to the Las Vegas rampage

"They are both family men," Gillespie said, "and they're leaving behind loved ones."

I would expect that even the gun lovers would recognize the immediacy of the problem. And even if the problem is a complex mix of inequity, inadequate mental health treatment and easy access to firearms, we are in desperate need of triage at the moment. We need bold and immediate action to quell the daily acts of mass public attacks. I don't know exactly the form it should take, but it should involve stopping or slowing the sale or access of firearms while a serious study is conducted. If only the US government didn't coddle the terrorist organization, the NRA, we could make some progress.

The shooters then ransacked the dying cops' bodies for ammunition and weapons before covering them with the famous 'Don't Tread On Me' flag from the American Revolutionary war.
