A UNL graduate who was fatally shot Sunday in a Las Vegas restaurant loved being a police officer, the man’s father said Monday.

Igor Soldo, 31, formerly of Lincoln, and another Las Vegas officer, Alyn Beck, 41, were eating lunch in a CiCi’s Pizza when they were fatally shot at point-blank range by a man and a woman, Vegas police said.

After shooting the officers, the man and woman went to a Walmart across the street, fatally shot a person inside the front door and exchanged gunfire with police. They then killed themselves in an apparent suicide pact, police said.

Soldo graduated from Lincoln Southeast in 2000 and then obtained a degree in criminal justice from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2004. He worked as a Lancaster County Corrections officer before moving to Las Vegas and joining the police department there. He had been with the force since 2006.
