George F. Will: being raped grants one a "coveted status that confers privileges"

There aren't enough facepalms in the world. He really says so here: http://m.washingtonpost.com/opinions/george-will-college-become-the-victims-of-progressivism/2014/06/06/e90e73b4-eb50-11e3-9f5c-9075d5508f0a_story.html

My rant:TRIGGER WARNING

Got that? Being victimized is to be “coveted”, because it gets you special “privileges”. Wow. Guess I had it all wrong.

Who knew that when those adult males brutally molested me as a child, making me bleed and causing health issues that still persist after half a fucking century, that it was a coveted privilege? And here I thought they were disgusting violent criminal perverts. Wow.

And who knew that when a school counselor suspected what was going on, asked about it, and the bastards then raped my mouth so savagely that I required surgery (cause written down as “running with a Popsicle stick in my mouth”), that I was lucky, nay, blessed with such an exalted status? I thought they were torturing me to shut me up. Silly me.

Why, they were benefactors if you ask Mr. Will. Yes, benign and benevolent men they were, raping little kids so as to help us along in life by giving us access to the privileges that come with being the survivors of violent assault.

Yes, on campus or off, male or female, in Will’s mind we are all of us hot after getting the shit raped out of us, so we can get them thar privilege things. Yupyupyup.

Why, it makes one wonder, why George Fucking Will doesn’t hurry on out to get himself raped? Sheesh, he’s missing out.

George Will: Focus On Rape Has Made 'Victimhood A Coveted Status'

George Will on Friday became the latest conservative pundit to attempt to debunk sexual assault statistics, arguing that universities' efforts to address campus rape have made "victimhood a coveted status."

In a column for the Washington Post, Will argues that universities are basing their definition of sexual assault on a "Washington" education, which is leading to inflated statistics.

“They are learning that when they say campus victimizations are ubiquitous ('micro-aggressions,' often not discernible to the untutored eye, are everywhere), and that when they make victimhood a coveted status that confers privileges, victims proliferate," he wrote.

Will offers an anecdote from a student at Swarthmore College, in which a woman reported a rape after a former sexual partner wouldn't take no for an answer. Will implies that because the incident occurred "with a guy with whom she’d been hooking up for three months," she wasn't sexually assaulted.

"I just kind of laid there and didn’t do anything — I had already said no. I was just tired and wanted to go to bed. I let him finish. I pulled my panties back on and went to sleep," the woman wrote about the encounter.

"Six weeks later, the woman reported that she had been raped," Will wrote about the Swarthmore student. "Now the Obama administration is riding to the rescue of 'sexual assault' victims. It vows to excavate equities from the ambiguities of the hookup culture, this cocktail of hormones, alcohol and the faux sophistication of today’s prolonged adolescence of especially privileged young adults."

The conservative columnist then disputed certain aspects of the definition of sexual assault.

"Combine this with capacious definitions of sexual assault that can include not only forcible sexual penetration but also nonconsensual touching. Then add the doctrine that the consent of a female who has been drinking might not protect a male from being found guilty of rape," he wrote. "Then comes costly litigation against institutions that have denied due process to males they accuse of what society considers serious felonies."

Thanks for your kind words. As a male rape survivor, I occupy a strange place: one who is simultaneously the beneficiary of patriarchy, and one who has felt its boot on my neck. It makes me a very vocal feminist ally.

There are a very few women who throw abuse at men like me: claiming we should be silent about our struggle, that it is anathema for men to speak of the evil that men do to men. Only one on DU that I have encountered, thank the Gods.

In truth, one such as myself can see more clearly the devil that lives in every human soul. And with that knowledge comes the realization that each of us must fight and defeat that demon if we are ever to evolve.

I fight first the devil within myself. With such energy as remains, I fight the devils in men like George Will.

Thanks again for your kind words.

Exactly how many of my classmates rushed to "covet my status" after my assailant knocked out one of my teeth and broke four more, blackened both eyes and gave me a concussion?

Or are you, sir, possibly related to the responding police officer who assumed that I had eyes in the back of my head so that I could see the guy sneaking up on me, cueing me to do something seductive to provoke him?

You can take your opinion, "sir", and put it back in that dark smelly place from which you derived it.

86. The problem I have with Will's argument
Tue Jun 10, 2014, 11:05 AM
Jun 2014

is that he is using an example where it is considered rape in some states (eg California) in the Union based on the scenario described (No means no). Trigger warnings make no sense if college is supposed to be about critical thinking, open debate, and trying to understand all view points. Overall, his opinion piece is a jumbled mess of trying to attack liberals in a scattershot manner with little focus. Had he made his opinion piece revolve around trigger warnings and how it has no place in higher education institutions trying to teach young adults to see the world in shades of grays instead of black and white it would make logical sense.

It would seem that G. Will would take the old joke " If women are so good at multitasking, why can't they have a head ache and
sex at the same time ? ", and try to apply it as creditable defense for forcing oneself upon another.
Even in marriage, because the wife has said " I do " the crime of marital rape can not be out of hand negated..

Colleges and universities are being educated by Washington and are finding the experience excruciating. They are learning that when they say campus victimizations are ubiquitous (“micro-aggressions,” often not discernible to the untutored eye, are everywhere), and that when they make victimhood a coveted status that confers privileges, victims proliferate"".
followed by:
"And academia’s progressivism has rendered it intellectually defenseless now that progressivism’s achievement, the regulatory state, has decided it is academia’s turn to be broken to government’s saddle. "
-
-
I think he is saying that the colleges started something and now have Washington making guesstimates on what is occurring and there are resultant actions.
-
He makes weak and vague reference to "when they make victimhood a coveted status that confers privileges, victims proliferate"

The attitude conveyed in his 'commentary' suggests in part, tacit approval for the act of rape, while at the same time demonizing victims of rape. A typical attitude of perpetrators of violence/rape against women. I'm hoping women who have the resources get on the story asap. Setting aside the likelihood that he is rapist himself, this bullshit has to be called out for what it is and expose the bastard for what he is. it would please me to no end, to see George put in a situation where he was the victim, then have his own words put to him in the public square.
