There appear to be different words for different decades by the group. The words change, but all of the versions are a pretty astute commentary on society. Listen to the bottom one first, top one is newer.

(23,061 posts)For years I wanted to be a farm hippie instead of the city version. Tried it out for a few years, minus the commune, just living in the country growing almost all of my food and making almost all of my clothes but the organic farm didn't make enough money, so back to the city and college I went. No longer a hippie but still a liberal for life.

(88,117 posts)It's one you can remember always. I never got a chance to do stuff like that. I was in college before I ever really started thinking outside the box. I remember one professor who was determined we would stop parroting stuff, and he's the one I will never forget. Others made us think, but he literally forced us to do so by basing our grade on how much we questioned.
It was the first time I realized that all religions had similar running throughout them. I began to really question Southern Baptist teaching, and I never stopped.
It's been quite a journey for me to be so liberal considering my background. I had thinking liberal parents so thank God for them.

(88,117 posts)The top has good quality, but not the version I was looking for. Hard to find good quality in older songs like that.
Peace back.

(9,385 posts)I liked that a lot, never heard them before. Here's one back at ya (which I'm sure you'll know):

I found a lot of their albums for download at emusic.com. Not very good quality, but a couple good enough to download.
Thanks for that memory.

You are right, way too young.

(88,117 posts)I am central FL. I just heard that song not long ago, the Old Hippie one. I can see where esp in the 60s and 70s people would be wondering how to handle it all. And don't get me started on today's times. Just living in FL with Scott and governor is challenge enough.
