You, me, all of us idiots here who supposedly support the (theoretical) principles of the Democratic Party and supposedly agree on the basic principles of liberalism and progressiveness, but spend all of our time sniping at each other, seperating and alienating each other by race, gender, age, degree of like or dislike of President Obama, degree of moderation or "leftism,"
anger or appreciation at Greenwald and Snowden....and God knows whatever other subjects we find to beat each other over the heads with.
Karl Rove the 1 percenters, the right-wingers, they all loving this shit.
Political Correctness and Political Incorrectness run amok. Pissyassed factionalism, ego-lock on opinions.....This is a great way to take back the country. Wonderful way to push for social and economic justice.
We're great at finding ways to estrange ourselves from each other so that we will never form a critical mass to actually win anyone over to the values and policies we supposedly believe in.
I know, this post itself is a masterpiece of exactly the kind of flame bait I'm complaining about. I'm as much of a jerk as anyone, I guess.
DU has never been a placid place. But Jeezus in a beanie. We seem to have reached new levels of of self defeating battles among ourselves.
"The sky is blue on a sunny day."
"No it isn't, you jerk. It's azure."
"What the hell do you know?! You're one of THEM."
Blah,blahblah
Go ahead, pull out the popcorn and flame away. And while we're f---ing at it, let's start a series of angry threads over over what brand of popcorn is best. Or, even better, whether we should even be eating popcorn because of its history or because it isn't organic enough or some kind of crap or other.

(43,049 posts)When I've been out there running for office or carrying petitions and knocking on doors to get out the vote, I've heard very few DU-type hotheads making noise. Sure, they're out there, but they don't make the calls, carry the petitions, or do anything else but make a little noise here and there.
And are routinely ignored because half the time they don't even bother to vote. The rest of us are doing the work and know none of our candidates are perfect-- there never will be a perfect candidate but what we have is what we have and the point is to get them elected because the other ones are far worse.
And sometimes we have some really good people running. Really, really, good people.

The problem is that many here are still searching for that mythical 'perfect candidate' who doesn't exist - never has, never will.

P.S. Prepare for the topic of popcorngate to top the Most Discussed list by this time tomorrow.

(27,813 posts)I knew an OP about being united rather than divided would sink like a stone. And it did.
Sadly, most of the people here are here for the infighting, the petty arguments, the trivia that they find it worthwhile to argue over.
I did, however, hope that the idea of popcorngate would take hold - just to keep it interesting.
