(6,393 posts)No callouts to various groups, pro/anti NRA, etc. Just the quick link and facts. That works better for instances like this because we don't know what's going on yet.
Basically, a +1 for starting a thread without an agenda and just the news itself.

(19,537 posts)A story that a robot was sent in to a bathroom nearby where the shooter was. Talking to a student on TV now. Shooter is confirmed dead.
Student heard four shots that sounded like fireworks. Scenes of everybody walking around building with their hands up as they are evacuating a building. A meeting at 9:45 coming up soon.
This is getting too damn personal. My sister lives a few miles away from the high school where one of the victims of the UCSB shooting a week ago or so went to high school.
Damn, today we had a local platform committee meeting scheduled for tonight. We had one an hour or so after the Clackamas shooting a while back too.
Now there is a twitter report that a teacher might have been shot that's not been confirmed.

(15,429 posts)Eventually a hit song about the shootings.
This escalated every shooting afterwards hitting the peak at Columbine. Now you have an underculture that actually idolizes school mass shooters.
The national play is what forever changed how these things go.
Rinse, repeat.

(115,103 posts)Whitman's killing spree left 17 dead including many teenagers.
Regardless, the age of the targets or the existence of a hit song don't change anything. Whitman was national news. For over an hour he terrorized a campus. The nation was aware of this as it was happening.
I don't know what would possess you or anyone else to say "the first modern school shooting was done by a female."

(13,460 posts)Oregon! Oregon you are the winner of this week's US school shooting! Notice the sleek style of the semi-automatic weapon, the classic dead, deranged shooter, and multiple injuries to innocent people!
Look out America, it is just Tuesday, stay tuned to see if another state can luck into a school shooting of their own this week, or will it be Oregon again?

(381 posts)Here in the land of the second amendment no infringement of gun rights will ever be tolerated by the NRA, the gun makers, those who love their guns more than life itself and the politicians who pander to them. The more gun violence and death, the greater the need for more guns. Slaughter twenty children, a hundred or a thousand and the NRA gains supporters and gun sales go up. There is no hope, except the hope that you and yours will somehow escape the carnage.
