So come January, who'll be the GOP leader?

I don't know if we can get the seat. I think we need to scramble and figure out who Jack Trammell is. (and get behind him)

Until then, if the GOP retains the house, who will take that role? They lost a pretty big senior member tonite. and when I say senior member…

… I'll stop..

Good bye to Cantor. Farewell.

Either way, the GOP (in the majority or not) will need someone to take the place of Cantor.

I am going to do what ever it takes to get the D's back in the majority.

Dem candidate would get votes from almost all Dems, a huge number of Indies, and a sizable number of Repubs horrified by teabaggers. The Tea Party could win some Congressional districts, but few statewide and no presidential elections. Further, having two branches... teabagger and "reasonable"... of the Republican Party will lead to the brand being confused by voters. The more extreme the teabaggers drag the GOP... the less appealing it becomes. They are already hurting bad with young voters, minorities, and women.

So there's gonna be large holes to fill in GOP leadership... holes filled by inexperienced people. IMO, the GOP might be tearing itself apart.

I would be happy if the Dems would sit back and let this crap play itself out.

That said, things are dire. we need every seat we can get. We need every vote we can get. The person who defeated Cantor is not a strong candidate. He's an Anti-candidate.

Things just got very real for the Dem candidate.

The teabagger won't have funding Cantor does, so that helps the Dem. And there's always the chance the teabagger political rookie will say or do something really stupid.
I don't think this one race will make or break control of House... Dems probably going to be several seats short regardless. But disarray in GOP leadership probably does help Dems chances in 2016 presidential year elections.

5 million and Brat only a quarter of a million.

Money is the poison that has polluted politics in this country. So a Dem loaded with money, as Cantor was, may NOT be an advantage at all.

I don't know Brat at all so don't know if he used Cantor's money against him.

But I don't want corporate funded candidates. And more people are feeling the same way. The truth is all that money BUYS a candidate and once elected, who are they beholden to?

I think it's VERY interesting that money DID NOT talk in this election, and imo that is one good thing about it.

Things ARE changing, people realize that their elected officials are not necessarily working for them anymore, they work for who pays for their campaigns.

I will have to go see if Brat used this to defeat Cantor.

I find it very positive to learn that an underfunded candidate, especially in the Money Party, defeated a top funded powerful member of Congress. That contradicts everything we have come to expect over the past few years.

'Money Talks'. Well not this time for whatever reason. And that, imo, is GOOD news for Real Liberal Dems who will never be funded by Corporations. With the changing views of the working class, this is a big issue candidates can use against their well funded opponents now.

Being Speaker means having to compromise or make a deal on occasion. That may not be compatible with securing the GOP nomination for president, if thats his ambition. He can sit on the sidelines and toss bombs for media attention, rather than doing the hard work. Its working for Carnival Cruz.

Voters can be real stupid. In my neck of the woods, many voters thought that when they voted out Tom Foley, that Nethercutt would become speaker of the house.
