Flushing, NY: City investigators wrongfully accused a black man of being an illegal taxi driver after they spotted him dropping off his wife at work, believing she was a white livery cab passenger, a lawsuit charges.
The couple claims that TLC investigators pulled over Keys, a car salesman, because they mistook Palermo, who is biracial, for being white and assumed she was a customer.

(26,311 posts)Once they realized the wife was listed as owner of the car, they still ticketed her. For being an illegal "fare" in her own vehicle????? Wtf!

(13,992 posts)I forget his name (unfortunately) because he's friggin' hysterical. I believe he's Indian, and he does a bit about a women jumping into the backseat of his car at the airport because she thought he was a cabbie.
Really funny stuff.

Here's the shocking part: I can't find it on Youtube.

This is ludricrous and so disgusting on several levels. Hope they win the lawsuit - full amount, may be then the TLC will re-think their backward and racist ideas.

When Palermo arrived to clear up the misunderstanding, the investigators refused to let them go and instead wrote both of them summonses with false allegations, the lawsuit says. Palermo was ticketed because she is listed as the owner of the Town Car, which was seized.

(51,512 posts)This started out as a typical profiling case. Hell, TLC might have had a good excuse for stopping the guy: he drove a Lincoln Town Car--often used as a taxi, and his wife rode in the back seat, like a taxi passenger would, as opposed to a spouse.
But when TLC heard the facts, that she was in the back seat because the front passenger seat was wet from recent rains, and that it was her car, they should have let them go and not kept her car. Unbelievable.
