Black Man Driving Wife to Work Accused of Being Illegal Cab Driver: Lawsuit

Flushing, NY: City investigators wrongfully accused a black man of being an illegal taxi driver after they spotted him dropping off his wife at work, believing she was a white livery cab passenger, a lawsuit charges.

The couple claims that TLC investigators pulled over Keys, a car salesman, because they mistook Palermo, who is biracial, for being white and assumed she was a customer.

Once they realized the wife was listed as owner of the car, they still ticketed her. For being an illegal "fare" in her own vehicle????? Wtf!

The inconvenience, the utter humiliation, and the downright harassment of not getting their car back immediately should be made a memorable example of--one with big headlines and big consequences.

I forget his name (unfortunately) because he's friggin' hysterical. I believe he's Indian, and he does a bit about a women jumping into the backseat of his car at the airport because she thought he was a cabbie.

Really funny stuff.

The punchline is "I made $50," after trying fruitlessly for some time to explain to her that he wasn't a taxi driver.

Here's the shocking part: I can't find it on Youtube.

Calls himself a "Pewfie", his conflation of "Pakistani" and Newfoundland dweller ("Newfie&quot .

Makes a lot of observations on ethnicity.

Even if she was white, they'd still be wrong for ASSuming he was a cab driver based on the passenger's race.

what decade is the TLC operating in?

This is ludricrous and so disgusting on several levels. Hope they win the lawsuit - full amount, may be then the TLC will re-think their backward and racist ideas.

From the OP link:

The lawsuit claims that investigators — not yet knowing the couple’s relationship — lied to Keys and claimed a “white female” passenger confirmed to them that he was an unlicensed hack.

When Palermo arrived to clear up the misunderstanding, the investigators refused to let them go and instead wrote both of them summonses with false allegations, the lawsuit says. Palermo was ticketed because she is listed as the owner of the Town Car, which was seized.

This started out as a typical profiling case. Hell, TLC might have had a good excuse for stopping the guy: he drove a Lincoln Town Car--often used as a taxi, and his wife rode in the back seat, like a taxi passenger would, as opposed to a spouse.

But when TLC heard the facts, that she was in the back seat because the front passenger seat was wet from recent rains, and that it was her car, they should have let them go and not kept her car. Unbelievable.
