Eric Cantor's Pollster Blames Democrats For Stunning Loss

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor's loss to his little-known primary rival Tuesday night was made all the more surprising by Cantor's own pollster's confident predictions on the race.

Less than a week before Cantor's upset loss, the pollster, John McLaughlin, released a survey indicating Cantor had a 62% to 28% lead over his Republican opponent, Dave Brat. Brat would go on to win by 11% - a huge, 45-point shift that was far outside the poll's margin of error.

In an interview with the National Journal after Tuesday's election, McLaughlin accused Democrats, especially "Dukes of Hazard" actor Ben Jones, of meddling in the race. In Virginia, voters can cast ballots in whatever primary they like. Jones, who once ran against Cantor himself, had reportedly called on Democrats to do exactly that and back Brat.

" Little evidence for widespread Democratic cross over voting to oppose Cantor in GOP primary

Vote counts show turnout did not spike higher in more Democratic-voting counties, and Cantor lost most support in Republican strongholds."

"Update: Turnout expert Michael McDonald of the United States Elections Project found similar results analyzing precinct-level data Tuesday night, reporting GOP primary turnout was lowest in the most Democratic-leaning areas of the state."

Otherwise, they have to look in the mirror to see whom to blame. They do not like doing that.

It never hurts to rub your enemy's nose in it if you get the chance. It certainly does not make them stronger.

We have been the good guys for FAR too long while the Pukes engage in every dirty trick in the book and win elections. Time for a little payback, I think.

Virginians know better but this district is as gerrymandering as they come. Specifically designed for him - say pundits. Very strong Republicans.

So if it is true, I think that we shot ourselves in the foot.

Also, I think that the Democrat is not strong. More of a sacrificial lamb.

I'm not so sure Carter wasn't involved, either

Is there no end to the number of people not named 'Cantor' who are responsible for this travesty?
