Meaning you cannot sit at the table with evil people without becoming damaged by evil yourself. Applies to Cantor, Kapos, and others who try to play both sides of the battlefield in a moral struggle.

I'm not sure the quotation as I wrote it is 100% accurate. That was in 1969 or so, and I am getting old.
