http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/06/10/police-officer-rescues-dog_n_5480401.html?utm_hp_ref=mostpopularOfficer David Harriman and his partner responded to a call after a 59-year-old woman accidentally submerged her truck in more than 8 feet of water in Carver, Massachusetts. The woman was able to escape from the vehicle and another dog swam out on its own, but one dog remained trapped when the officers arrived on the scene.
Harriman -- an avid dog lover -- removed his gun belt and dove into the water in an effort to rescue the stranded pooch, according to a statement provided to HuffPost from the Carver Police Department. He was able to open the door to the vehicle and retrieve the dog, who was returned to its owner and all three victims are now in good health...

(39,961 posts)I know we have a lot of horrible police officer/department stories here, but hey, they are people too, and every now and then one of them does the right thing.

That's what we usually hear, though, isn't it?

Good job officer and it would take a dog lover to do this.

(65,616 posts)That cop has my respect. He wasn't required to risk his life for a dog (and many would not), but it shows you that some cops are willing to go above the call of duty to save a life...even a dog's life.
Great article, I am glad nobody was hurt.

(15,189 posts)What's behind him, another vehicle? Massachusetts is a crazy place to drive. Went there in 74, and saw a construction sign that says Fewer lanes ahead, squeeze to the left. LOL! Squeeze? Left turns made in front of oncoming traffic. Crazy. I was only 13, my dad did all the driving.

(34,120 posts)He's obviously standing on one vehicle, then there is another partially submerged in the background.
Interesting - looking at the Google earth views of the town, there is a large swamp with many reservoirs and cranberry bogs. Lots of the water filled areas seem to have been dammed off with roads going along the dams or dikes holding the water. Those would be easy to drive off in a moment of inattention.

(426 posts)I know, my dad was a cop. This sounds like something he would have done. He was also an avid dog lover.
