Every Democratic Voter in the Country should read this article

and coming from the WP I'm a little surprised this article slipped by the editor.

"Sure, it’s fun for Democrats to watch Republicans fight amongst themselves and hand their nominations to the fringe of their base. But if Democrats don’t vote in the numbers they need to in November, those folks who are more conservative than the ultra-conservative members already gumming up the works will come to Washington. If the threat of that is not enough of a wake-up call for Democratic voters, I don’t know what is."

One party is off the map crazy, racist, anti-poor, anti-environment, anti-education, fundamentalist Christian and sees government as the enemy. The other has become the moderate Republican party.

If Obama had governed the way he campaigned and the Democratic party still stood for the middle class you wouldn't be able to keep people from the polls and the GOP would be dead...

The best statements that I have ever seen. Spot on.........we, the Democratic base, have allowed those whom we elected to sell us out to corporate interests, wall street banksters, and fossil fuel conglomerates, while we stood by and did nothing. Our current elected Democratic legislators and executives have found the need for large donor deals in order to secure their place at the table with their greedy bastard counterparts.

The good news: There are those like Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, and Alan Grayson, who haven't yet given in to that temptation.

The bad news: Unfortunately, there aren't enough honest Democrats like those that I mentioned, to make a difference in Washington politics today.

The solution: Do everything in your power to help support and elect more progressive candidates. And when that is not possible, make sure that your vote is counted for the Democratic candidate on the ballot, and help rid congress of the most vile and evil of the lot........Pukes and Baggers.

Looking at Nixon, who is regarded the same...minus that little thing called Watergate.

Nixon also believed in diplomacy (with China), while at the same time surging a war into Cambodia
Obama believes in diplomacy first (with Syria, Russia), while at the same time he surged the war in Afghanistan in his first years

Nixon proposed a healthcare bill that was much more universal than the ACA. He created the Environmental Protection Agency. Obama has just proposed new environmental standards.

In many ways, Nixon was more liberal than Obama.

But all that said..sigh....its also true that to keep the rabid wolves from entering, we must vote for this Center/Right party, and maybe have to sacrifice Net Neutrality in exchange, as both corporate parties cannot resist the salivating corporations using $ and threats to get their way on that. We live in the golden age of the Internet. Enjoy it now. It will be gone soon and places like DU will be difficult to access.

I'm sure there are other things we'll continue to sacrifice as well. But these are 3 major issues where this admin and it's appointees are at top dollar best complacent and lackluster in protecting and at rock bottom worst are actively trying to destroy and take us in the direction of Republican policies.

What do we see now? Democrats building the country back up and voters thinking its time to put in power people who say they're fiscally conservative.

But I don't think this country is complacent or happy now, no matter what good is being done. America is scared, angry, and fractured — and it's probably worse than 1968 because our problems are always in our faces 24/7. The party that best taps into that discontent to get out the vote wins. I'm hoping the messages to the discontent speak to the better angels of our nature, but you and I know what assholes we're all up against. It's going to be Republican red meat vs. Democratic real solutions for all of us.

GOTV indeed!

13. This ...
Thu Jun 12, 2014, 12:06 PM

Terry McAuliffe lost the white vote by 20 percentage points, yet he became governor of Virginia by three points because African American voters came out in an off-year election (2013) in the same proportion they did in the 2012 presidential race.

If blacks were to replicate that feat in this fall’s critical Senate races, Democrats could hang on to the chamber
. As The Post’s Aaron Blake reported in April, three states with the highest black populations — Louisiana, North Carolina and Arkansas — “are widely considered to be the most pivotal when it comes to the GOP’s hopes of winning the majority. These three races are expected to be the difference between a GOP majority and a Democratic majority — at least the way things look right now.”

combined with, and in the context of, this:

Democrats love the president (75 percent), but barely half of them (51 percent) said they were “absolutely certain” to vote in November. African Americans in particular love Obama (75 percent). Yet just 49 percent of them said they were “absolutely certain” to show up at the midterms.

If, nothing else, should suggest that Democrats should focus on what Black folks are saying is important to them.

For example, Black folks ARE saying that JOB CREATION is important to them; they ARE saying the RACIAL EQUITY is important to them; they ARE saying that INJUSTICE in the justice system is important to them; they ARE saying that URBAN OPPORTUNITY is important to them. They have NOT/are NOT expressed/are NOT expressing much concern with the NSA, TTP, Keystone, violations of individual privacy rights, legalization of marijuana, or most of the other "really, really important issues" that appear on DU pages. In short, they ARE saying that they supportive of what President Obama is saying/doing; and are at odds with those that are perpetually "holding his feet to the fire" on issues that are far less important to them.

I am not saying that the former should be the only issues campaigned on, to the exclusion of the latter; rather, I am saying that Democrats would benefit from taking a page from the republican handbook and focus on the most ardent and reliable segment of its base in the 2014.

That lets the actual politicians in our party off the hook way too easy, and allows them to run and govern on little more than "Hey those guys are crazy, huh?" And that has proven disastrous to our party and the country for far too many years now.

At what point do we demand more than "Not as crazy as the other guys?"

Republicans, then I agree. But if you are trying to say that the DEmocrats in Wash the DC are progressive, then I have to throw the BS flag. The most progressive person in Congress is an Independent. While there are a few progressives in the Democratic Party they are few and far between. Some will argue that Pres Obama is progressive and I will agree for some issues, but he has surrounded himself with conservatives, a number of which are Republicans of the very party you rail against.

Every year we continue this status quo where the banksters continue to rip us off and split the loot with their bought and paid for politicians (book deals and lecture deals) we sink farther and farther behind. Sadly, there are those among us that dont want to draw the line now. Maybe next election. Just how high does the poverty level have to get before you abandon the status quo (H. Clinton-Sachs) and draw the line and fight for our freedoms and liberties?
