Orwell was a brilliant man

"An army of unemployed led by millionaires quoting the Sermon on the Mount – that is our danger. But it cannot arise when we have once introduced a reasonable degree of social justice. The lady in the Rolls-Royce car is more damaging to morale than a fleet of Goering's bombing planes."
—George Orwell, Shopkeepers at War

Thanks for sharing this! I had been poking around for a place to find his essays because I would like to read them all. Now I just go to that site and send it to my e-reader and I'm all loaded up.

His was a great mind and while his novels are lauded, his other writings are more obscure. His message is vitally important today and we should be passing them around to every corner.

but this site has his essays, which are hard to find.
And they are so easy to downlaod in pdf format, which Nook can read.

Happy Reading!

Oh....PS: didja notice the site is by a russian?
A Russian, putting up Orwell, which we, Americans, really need to be reminded of in this day and age.
Oh, the irony.

My biggest fear is that the dumbing down of the world, and truly as Orwell predicted, the shrinking and loss of language is happening because people no longer read. The internet is great for short snippets, but in order to really learn and examine a subject one has to read. I hope it becomes a show of resistance and incredibly popular!

It disturbs me greatly when people see his work as historical, applicable only to Soviet Communism and Nazi Fascism.

Orwell's work is timeless. It is applicable to this day.

The lady in the Rolls Royce still exists.
