Time to solve Jamaica's economic problems with ganja.

I'd ban rum punch and greet tourists with ganja cookies, ganja lotion, ganja soap all in hemp bags with a lil spliff

The rum punch I had in Jamaica was a taste of Heaven on Earth. Just wonderful. Exquisite, and cheap as water. Cheaper even, probably. I celebrate with those who want to light up a spliff, and it's about time. But don't take away my rum punch...

<snip>
The Portia Simpson Miller Cabinet has approved proposed amendments to the law that will decriminalise the possession of small amounts of ganja.

At the same time Justice Minister Mark Golding, who made the announcement today, says the government will soon table a bill in Parliament that will seek to expunge the criminal records of persons convicted for possession of small amounts of ganja.

Speaking at a Jamaica House press conference a short while ago, Golding said Cabinet has approved proposed changes to the Dangerous Drugs Act to make possession of 0.057 kilogram or less a non-arrestable offence.

Instead, under the proposed changes it will become a ticketable infraction that will attract a fine which offenders can pay outside the court system.

He says failure to pay the ticket within 30 days will be a minor offense punishable in the petty sessions court or by an order for community service.

In addition, Golding said the Dangerous Drugs Act is to be amended to remove the smoking of marijuana as an offence as well as the possession of pipes and other items used in connection with the smoking of ganja.

on vacation and I ran into an old friend.

He advised me that if I wanted some weed, I should go to him. (I don't know why he would ask me that since I've never, never, ever, ever ... well, maybe ... well, I digress)

He told me there was quite the cottage industry there. Someone sells a bag to an American. The seller goes around the corner to a cop, who arrests the American for possession. A bribe is to be paid or the American goes to jail. The seller gets his/her weed back to sell again.

This was 20+ years ago, but that two OZ thing would put some enterprising folks out of business.

Then just so one day -years after graduation - he quit smoking as a promise to his father who had died.

resort right there on the ocean, I believe it had three or four swimming pools, one of them with a waterfall and at least one of them with a swim up bar, we snorkeled, jet skied, and para-sailed.

It was an all inclusive package, all you could eat and drink was part of the deal, "don't worry be happy" that was the motto and we lived up to it for that week anyway, good times.

the hotel had two tall towers, this one might have been it, the Grande.

We trekked up Dunns River Falls and I para-sailed past Ian Fleming's house, that was a blast, it felt surreal.

Did you ever hear of Junior P, the singer? He and his folks are great people, not sure if Rasta or not though. He did this song, one of my very all time favorites:
