Iowa Senate Hopeful 'Appalled' Her Husband Called Janet Napolitano A 'Traitorous Skank'

Iowa's Republican Senate nominee Joni Ernst told a local news outlet she's "appalled" that her husband once called former U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano a "traitorous skank" on Facebook.

As reported by the Des Moines Register, Democrats took a screenshot of Gail Ernst's written comments, which had been up since April 2013, and seized on them. That prompted him to delete that and other inflammatory posts and apologize for them before Ernst denounced them.

"I'm appalled by my husband's remarks," Joni Ernst said, according to the Register. "They are uncalled for and clearly inappropriate. I've addressed this issue with my husband and that's between us."

Gail Ernst also called Hillary Clinton a "hag" in a May 2013 post on Facebook.

The flap is particularly notable because Ernst's allies have been sensitive to sexist attacks on the candidate in her race against Democrat Bruce Braley for Iowa's open Senate seat this November.

They seem like peas in a pod in their extreme views, IMHO. I doubt she's honestly and sincerely appalled. Just publicly appalled for the campaign's sake.

If it was sexist to take the "Chick" ad as being demeaning to women, then it was sexist to have an ad where she is proud of cutting the balls out of males. (FYI, I am NOT an MRA person. I know, CLEARLY know that as a white male I've had privilege all my life). When I was busted for DUI and possession of Cocaine in Miami I showed up in court in a nice suit and tie because I could afford to show up that way (white male privilege). The judge mistook me for an attorney since almost every other defendant was of color and certainly not in a suit and tie or even very nice dress. She asked me who I was representing. I got a light fine and probation. The same thing didn't happen for many of the people there who were not privileged white males like me.

I just wish to point out the irony that showing a baby chick is sexist, but figuratively cutting out my balls is not - in her campaign's opinion.

Most men are wonderful people. When I read the OP, I wondered "isn't she the one who said she wanted to castrate members of congress just to make'em squeal?" That sounds a lot worse that "traitorous skank."

It looks like her values, priorities, thought processes, whatever, are really screwed up.

She seems to spend a lot of time in the barn, castrating animals, so maybe the pig was squealing too loud for her to hear what he said.
