domestic oil production is at a 24 year high and imports are at a 20 year low. 84% of America's energy needs were met by domestic sources in 2013.

We will soon become the larges petroleum producer in the world.

It is not like we are the worlds only consumer of oil. China, India and the rest will still gladly buy all they pump.

If we went all domestic and/or friendly countries with good human rights records for our energy it certainly would be the moral thing to do, but it wouldn't affect those other countries much due to everyone else buying.

If we wanted to actually affect them it would require crashing the price of oil. That would mean we hugely increase production so much we make all out own plus export it super cheap. This isn't doable without rolling back a lot of environmental laws and/or giving even more subsidies to oil companies.

Every fucking bit of this today is a direct result of the west's bloodthirsty invasions and riding roughshod over a people who did nothing to deserve ever being considered the 'enemy'. Oil is only a small part of it, controlling nations first by going in to ruin them militarily for the rape afterwards financially is the end goal, all with the added benefit of enriching the weapons suppliers forever ......... and not a single bit of what we're seeing right now was unexpected, nor undesired by many. Perpetual war.
