about our actual situation than we do.

To clarify, the United States is anything but united and is a big, sad joke.

I originally said "clowns" in my post title. Actually, our media and government is owned by a few people who can have their way with us as they see fit.

I assumed that George W. Bush was going get us into WW3, and I assumed that his Iraq adventure was the beginning of it. As much of a clusterfuck as that's turned out to be, I'm "pleasantly surprised" that it isn't oh so much worse. (of course, I'm old enough to remember when everyone assumed that Ronald Reagan was going to get us into WW3, and that didn't happen.)

Here's what it comes down to... There are way too many people on the planet for the systems that we have built to support us all for much longer. We either need to radically change those systems, and fast, or we need to radically reduce the human population. I am certainly 100% all for changing those systems so that there isn't nearly as much "wealth inequality," as an example, and so that everyone has enough to eat and a place to live. Unfortunately, human beings aren't all that good at changing things that need to be changed BEFORE disaster strikes. We tend to be reactive. And given the current political and intellectual environment, it's pretty clear that the idiots are in charge.

So, then what happens? What always happens. What's happened to every civilization in the history of the world. Decay, tension, fighting over resources, and explosion. Then something else replaces it, which eventually turns into yet another unwieldy system, which eventually collapses. And the cycle begins anew.

It's a shame, really. This species of cute little hairless monkeys had such potential! And we could do it if it weren't for a relatively small class of sociopaths who insist on owning everything and everyone on the planet. But we're not going to get rid of those sociopaths anytime soon, and certainly not without them taking many, many of us with them...
