R U into Herps? I went to great length today to keep this fox snake safe (photo warning)

I went out to open the shed door this morning as I was going to feed the birds. I opened the door and this smaller fox snake tried to get out the door and head for the grass. I had just applied cedercide to the back yard. It is non-toxic to people, dogs, birds, butterflies, and bees. It kills ticks, fleas, etc. But it isn't good for snakes. It took 15 minutes to get him in the shed where there was no cedarcide and plenty for s/he to eat.

Living literally next to Fontenelle Forest we do see a six foot rat snake from time to time. Both are harmless. That doesn't mean the fox snake didn't act like he was trying to bite me. Edit to add: You can see his open mouth in the top photo as I was standing right in front of him. You can also see a lot of our back yard is not grass, but the same foliage as on the other side of our back fence which is forest.

Wife and I like our legless critters around the house. We see them quite often outside in the evenings.

I just rescued a bunch of Eastern Gray treefrog tadpoles from a backyard swimming pool that was being drained and dismantled. I actually got the last bucket full of them from the tarp that had been under the pool, that still had some tiny puddles with tadpoles in them.

I've got them in our backyard pond now. I need to get my good camera working again so I can take some decent pics.

I used to have two pet boa constrictors. They are great pets. They don't bark, bite or shit on the carpet.

Wife asked "What's wrong?" I said "Traffic." , got out and shooed the sunning snake off into the greenery. And just the other day, I found a large Gopher snake out back. I grabbed his tail and dragged him to a weedy area. In my war on Gophers, I need ALL the Allies I can muster!

I used to make an unscheduled stop to encourage the water snake who liked to sun himself back into the "river." I was afraid the powers-that-were would see him and freak out. I already had an agreement to relocate the snapping turtles they caught. They were deathly afraid of lawsuits...
