Volatility = Profits

So perhaps you read the story in LBN about the falling profits in some hedge funds. The reason?

An unusual period of calm has exacerbated problems for many trading strategies dependent on volatile markets. The losses by these so-called macro investors are contributing to a trading slowdown hurting the largest investment banks.

This is not only incentive to take advantage of volatile situations when they arise, but to create and sustain volatility.
Like an extreme sport.

This same mindset runs the war machine. Artificially manipulated opportunity for profit.
