Brat has called for slashing Social Security, Medicare, and education spending and says "rich" nations don't have to fear climate change.
In his campaign speeches, Brat has pointed out that he isn't worried about climate change because "rich countries solve their problems":
If you let Americans do their thing, there is no scarcity, right? They said we're going to run out of food 200 years ago, that we're goin' to have a ice age. Now we're heating up Of course we care for the environment, but we're not mad people. Over time, rich countries solve their problems. We get it right. It's not all perfect, but we get it right.

(154,021 posts)it is an economic theory that works in theory, but far from practice.
It makes certain assumptions, like all do, but it is an extreme form of market dominance over the economy.
What is hilarious is they preach Adam Smith, but Smith is doing summersaults every time they mention him.
Perhaps I am careful when I use the word evil.

(154,021 posts)In the case of Brat, and many of his cohorts, misguided is a better choice. David and Charles Koch, on the other hand. are very close to evil, if not actually evil.

(53,235 posts)Brat and the Kochs. The Kochs is how Brat's philosophy plays out.

(154,021 posts)just that the world evil has a very special connotation to me.
This guy went to school likely at a place where he learned this from word go. Why people like the Kochs are trying to control economics departments. They want more people like Brat emerging from programs, hence they will fund both Chicago and Austrian schools and try to destroy anybody who teaches anything else.
That is why Brat is a tool, creating more tools, and the Koch brothers are evil

(53,235 posts)But--dare I say it?--Brat should take personal responsibility. He clearly isn't stupid, so he's capable of understanding the results of his philosophy. The fact that he refuses to see these results is on him. That refusal is evil (as I use the word). I could say mean, greedy bastard just as easily as evil.
There are psychopaths who torture firsthand, and there are evil bastards who torture one or two degrees away (by denying basic rights or basic needs). Both types are evil.

(154,021 posts)want a good read? And good laugh, find out what he says about Nietzsche and good Christian men combined with the economy.
Just because he has a PhD does not mean he is a deep thinker.

He also inflated his credentials, so if he does not win, he might have trouble keeping his present employment.

(154,021 posts)and how far they expect fire fighting budgets to get out of control? I guess the land of fruits and nuts is not a rich nation... though if it was on it's own it would be the world's 8th largest economy.
This guy is an idiot, but expected to be honest. He is also an adherent of the Austrian school, it is scary when you can peg them that fast.

(11,359 posts)So, what do you call a nation that leaves people unable to afford medical care, retirement, or education? - I don't think you can apply the word "rich" to such a nation.
Conversely, we don't solve our problems by ignoring them. Government is how we act collectively to solve problems too big for individuals.
