Iraq? No Way.

The United States should keep its hands off Iraq. In fact, it should avoid meddling anywhere in the Middle East. I first formed that opinion way back in the 1960s, and I have been proven correct ever since.

We do not understand the Middle East. When we meddle there, it goes sour every time. George W. Bush (piss be unto him) entered Iraq under false pretenses and kept us there. We finally extricated ourselves from that morass, and should maintain that. When we first went to Iraq, I said to all who would listen that it wouldn't matter how long we stayed there or how much we spent there. Within a short time of our leaving that place it would revert to the tribalism and sectarianism that have always characterized it. The same applies to Afghanistan. When we leave, it will quickly return to the sorry state it has been in for as long as I can remember.

We do not understand the Middle East. We are not competent to meddle in its affairs. As far as I am concerned, our only involvement in that region should be a strong push to convince every nation in the world to stop funding and supplying arms to the entire region forever. If the region wants to sell us oil, it's fine if we buy it, but that's where it ends.

No money. No military support. No training of any military in that region. Blockade the region from all arms trade. Once they use up the vast storehouse of destructive weapons already there, they can continue fighting with swords and muzzle-loaders. So be it.

We have no business meddling in that region. It will only continue to fight internally until it either comes to its senses or destroys itself. The United States should set an example by refusing to participate in all warfare there, either internal or external. Just let them fight their own battles using their own resources. They've been doing it for centuries. They will continue to do so, no matter what we do.

Fuck 'em!
