A detail of six Marines surprised Korean War veteran Darwin Schulte on Friday. Shaking Schulte's hand is Sgt. Gernard Rathbun.

POSTED: FRIDAY, JUNE 13, 2014 11:23 AM

U.S. Marines from various wars surprised one of their own Friday in his Omaha hospital room.

Darwin Schulte, 88, smiled and saluted from his bed as six Marines in uniform approached at the Nebraska Medical Center.

As he received a Republic of Korea medal, the five men and one woman snapped to attention when Master Sgt. Nicholas Babcock quietly ordered: “Marines ... ‘-hut!”

Marines from World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan stood among 30 people at a ceremony set up by Bill Williams of Omaha, whose Patriotic Productions has organized Honor Flights to Washington, D.C., for military veterans.
