So I Just About Got Hit In A Store Parking Lot....

..... about an hour ago.

The wife dragged me in to Wal-Mart this afternoon to pick up a perscription and a couple other items.

We were at the checkout when some women let out a very scarey loud sound and then proceeded to yell at the cashier in a threatening way. We finished up through the checkout and proceeded to the parking lot for our car when all the sudden I hear tires squeal and then a SUV comes charging at me, the screaming women was driving it.. The front fender I think clipped the bottom of my jacket where the zipper starts.

Well I raised my arms in a WTF mode and told her WATCH IT... Well... she lost control of her SUV and plowed in to the rear end of another car, no one was hurt though.

So people just need to chill.

and had a 'soft tissue' injury... then call Attorney Ken Nugent... Wal-Marts has deep pockets...

on a more serious note, glad you didn't get hurt. sounds like crazy lady would have just kept driving even if she had run you down.

The young girl stopped but didn't give me her insurance information. I reported her license plate number and they got in touch with the owner of the vehicle. It turned out that the mother loaned the car to a friend of her daughter who still hadn't obtained her drivers license. I ended up receiving a modest insurance settlement and I think that the parents got in big trouble with their insurance company. Needless to say I was in shock and had some minor scrapes and bruises. The young lady driving wasn't angry but she also wasn't paying attention because she wasn't looking behind while driving in reverse.

The young girl was lucky I didn't pursue any other charges because she could have had a felony hit-and-run and failure to render aid on her criminal record following her the remainder of her life. That would have gone over really well when it came time for her to pay her own insurance bill.

you could have made the decision in anger but it sounds like you let your cooler tendencies prevail. good on ya... cause insurance would not have ever been affordable for her...

8. It was an accident and I did not want to ruin her life.

She did the correct thing by getting out of the car and asking me how I was and I told her that I wasn't sure at the time since I was in shock. I realize that it was an accident because she didn't pay attention and I was primarily concerned with obtaining information in case there was an unforeseen problem and I would have to go to a hospital since I was uninsured. However, the driver panicked when I requested identifying information and abandoned me like she just hit an animal instead of a human being.

I don't know how strong a legal case I would have had since the daughter of the vehicle owner was in the passenger seat, there were no cameras and it occurred in a private parking lot so I felt like the best thing to do in that instance was to move forward after the insurance company investigated and told me the story. I felt fortunate to receive a settlement since initially it appeared that it was the daughter of the vehicle owner and she was specifically excluded from the insurance policy.

Kindness--meh, pragmatist--yes.

I hope you got her driver's license. Someone who uses a car as a weapon doesn't necessarily need to be driving.

But nobody complains about them.

Instead, they get all excited about guns, which have not increased their harmful effects despite more and more careful regulation.

More careful regulation and enforcement of gun laws is needed, but why they are popular targets for derision when alcohol is FAR more deadly, is beyond me.

9. I got hit, mostly nudged, the day before yesterday

by an elderly gentleman. He went by, I started to walk towards the cart deposit area, when he suddenly backed up. He hit me, well mostly the supermarket cart.

When I told him to watch it he lectured me as to why never walk behind a vehicle, one that had already gone by... it is a parking lot dude.

Fortunately all that was damaged or crimped was his ego, and I think the cart got a tad damaged. My wrist hurt for half an hour, that was it

cart at the grocery store. These people in this humongous truck came barreling in reverse out of their parking space, and damn near ran me down. Thank goodness I wasn't looking at my phone or something, because I had to jump the hell out of the way!
