(16,974 posts)Since you seem to be calling me addicted. Am I correct there, you are calling me addicted right? What special training do you have on diagnosing a poster on a discussion board?
How many weapons do I have? What types? Why do I have them? How often do I fire them? I have a CCW but how often do I carry? Do I support open carry? Do I support "sensible" gun legislation?
Since you know so much about me, answer those questions and please let me know how you came up with your diagnoses.

How any people have died due to our gun problem vs those two examples?
Since 1927 ?
Duckhunter935
(16,974 posts)How many have died from drunk and distracted driving during this time and are you as worked up and outraged over that or do they just not count as much?

(24,135 posts)because I know every time I get in my car there's a chance I might get in an accident and die or cause an accident. So far, I've had three accidents and due to improvements in car safety, I am still alive and I've not killed someone with my car. I have insurance and so did those drivers who caused two out of the three. The last one required months of therapy, so I'm glad for that.
If some douche with a gun shoots me, who pays? I do and usually it's no accident, it's a crime (Florida, Somolia being the exception)
We don't expect to get shot when we go shopping. We don't expect our kids to be killed by gun shots at school even though we all should in angry/hateful/armed and dangerous America.
I suppose we could all wear bullet proof vests. What a visual that would be - American's required to wear bullet proof vests, just like seat belts.
I get a ticket for not wearing my seat belt.
Maybe mandatory bullet proof vests will become a reality.
Then again, the NRA would lobby to nix that idea due to an image problem..
The car vs gun talking point - not the same.
Ghost in the Machine
(14,912 posts)just not true. I've lived in certain sections of Miami, Fl and Atlanta, Ga where I worried more about being robbed when I went out than I did about being in an accident. Actually, I've been robbed more times than I've been in automobile accidents. That, too, is a reality that people have to accept and live with.
Peace,
Ghost

(16,974 posts)guns are a big part of a lot of the country and have no issues. I am more worried about cars with distracted drivers than I am about guns. I have had some close calls on my motorcycle and have been hit from behind while stopped in the line to enter post by a driver on a phone and not paying attention. At least I was in my truck that day and only the bumper and brackets had to be replaced.
Ghost in the Machine
(14,912 posts)Distracted, drunk, methed-up, pill heads and/or drunks worry me more here. I'm a gun owner too, and make no apologies about it and fully support the 2nd amendment. I was just pointing out a different reality to the other poster that there ARE places where people who live there worry more about getting robbed than they do about getting into an accident instead of vice versa of what the other poster said.
Peace,
Ghost

(7,408 posts)With the news at our fingertips the perception for some may be different though.
They pretty much average a shooting a week in the city I'm in, 9 out of 10 are in a specific area of town though and related to gang/drug violence. But if you didn't know that it would sound like the place is a war zone by watching the news when in reality all the other areas are very safe.

(1,401 posts)As most of the new legislation proposed does nothing to address criminal firearm use in high crime areas. The only recent "policy" that was effective in reducing criminal firearm use in high crime areas was Bloomberg's "Stop and Frisk" program. Horrible from a civil liberties standpoint but was effective in separating firearms from those who were legally prohibited from possessing them. Most new legislation focuses on long guns not used in these neighborhoods and on magazine capacity for these weapons.
