Today's Meet the Press .......Transcript

Next on Meet the Press, Iraq on the brink of collapse. We're back at fault. And how will the U.S. prevent a terrorist state from emerging? With the politic of Iraq raging again, we'll hear exclusively from 2012 Republican Presidential nominee Mitt Romney and other key voices from the House and Senate. Plus political earthquake.

Romney will also weigh in on the biggest political upset of the year, which saw the Tea Party claim its biggest prize yet, House Leader Eric Cantor.
And a very special moment this Father's Day. Luke Russert here to remember his father on the tenth anniversary of Tim's book, Big Russ and Me, why this holiday was Tim Russert’s favorite.

ANNOUNCER:

From NBC News in Washington, Meet the Press with David Gregory.

DAVID GREGORY:

And good Sunday morning. We're going to start with the breaking news, the deteriorating situation in Iraq. This morning, there are reports of a suicide attack in Baghdad. And Islamist terrorists are threatening the Iraqi capital, although their advance has slowed. Right now, the U.S. aircraft carrier George H. W. Bush is in the Persian Gulf.

We usually go for the last half hour of the group discussion. Would have been nice had NBC provided the names as they were talking. I recognized Ford, Schmidt and Ruth Marcus, but not Cuccinelli.

"And the time was also signing a Status of Forces Agreement and having forces in Iraq"

I do like that David Gregory pointed out Romney's flip-flop about pulling out of Iraq.
That would have been fun to watch.

Romney is a slightly smarter Palin, but he still is a Teflon BS artist.
He uses buzz words in a such a way it almost sounds like he made a complete thought.
Almost.

2. Iraq on the verge of collapse. That might not be such a bad thing if it breaks up and joins areas

that are more like their own tribalism. The Kurds have control of a large area of oil and would probably want to be their own state allied with Turkey. The other tribes are close enough to areas that have a similar religion and would be willing to join them. I do not see the fighting stopping if we continue to insist that these very unlike groups meld into one. We saw that happen in our own country when reservations were created and enemy tribes were expected to live peacefully together. They still do not always do that - why do we think it will work in other countries.

3. Those different tribe areas were put together into hodge-podge nations on purpose.

The British and the French did it after WWI to keep the Arab nations constantly each others' throats and constantly fighting amongst themselves. It was done so that a large Pan-Arab Nation would not emerge from the ashes of the Ottoman Empire, and to make it easier to get at all that oil.

After 9/11, Osama bin Laden was talking about, by way of his videos, "80 years" of interference by the West. That's what he was referring to.

That being said, I do think it would be the best thing to break up Iraq. And some of the other fake nations in the region. I don't like the idea of a Pan-Arab Superstate. But then, I don't like the idea of an American Superpower either.
