Poll: should we re-engage militarily in Iraq, yes or no?

This would include air or drone strikes.

About 100 Marines and Army troops were deployed to the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad today and four warships steamed towards Iraq as tensions rose due to the advance of a radical Islamic insurgency.

The U.S. took the additional precautions as ISIS - the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria - expanded its territory in Iraq by capturing the city of Tal Afar, which is west of Mosul. In addition, fresh details emerged of a massacre carried out by ISIS, including top Muslim clerics who refused to pledge loyalty to the fanatic Islamic group.

There will be military actions. The current script is that the Iraqis have to support national unity first, then we'll roll.

Regardless of how we feel, we're in there in one way or another.

It could be a hands-off-ish thing, where we provide support to a governmental effort, or it could be a "limited involvement" thing, where we make recommendations and carry out strikes in a limited fashion.

I dunno, though. It's a terrible mess.

And all because GWB wanted to a) Avenge his "deddy," and b) Didn't know that Islam had sects and divisions.

Of course, if someone ELSE is doing the attacking, there's one degree of separation...that may be the play. I just don't know.

Oddly enough, if we partner with (or empathize with) the Iraqi government on this, we're also partnering with (empathizing with) IRAN.

It's a Shi'a thing...!

I mean, they love their open carry.

They get their arms, and head over.
Heck, they'll even get training.

Meaning, not going to happen.

I can't say go for it on this one. However, there was this one guy that traveled on his own dime to go there with his own weapons.

If their religious beliefs are such that they can't stand each other - they should have their own territories and their own governments.

It is the time for diplomacy to resolve conflict. It's what we should have done in the first place.

I'm confident that Obama will handle it better than Dubya did. Even if we have to involve the military.

Not because I think Obama never makes mistakes, but rather because I think Obama has a different motivation. Cheney was making himself and his buddies rich, that's not what Obama is going to be looking at here.

If we put boots in Iraq we'll be there another 10+ years, and when we pull out the situation will be the same as now. The M.E. wants a regional war. Let them have at it.
