The very idea that President Obama is guilty of impeachable offenses is obviously silly. And yet, the I word sure does get thrown around a lot.
Two weeks ago, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) ostensibly one of the more responsible Republican senators, capable of working with Democrats said hed support impeaching the president if Obama continued to transfer detainees from Guantanamo Bay. This morning, another Republican lawmaker said that if impeachment came to an up-or-down vote, itd probably pass.
A Republican congressman thinks a vote to impeachment President Obama would pass the Republican-controlled House of Representatives. Speaking with the Gary Sutton radio program on Monday, Rep. Lou Barletta of Pennsylvania said a vote to impeach Obama would probably pass the House.

(22,845 posts)This is something they've been drooling over from before Day 1 of this presidency. They've tried so hard, poor things, to find a REASON to impeach.
I swear, there is nothing that gives a Rethug a bigger hard-on than the prospect of attempting to impeach a Democratic president.

(17,064 posts)Impeach is just to charge. Trial is before the Senate. The GOP is far short of votes to convict in the Senate. And of course any impeachment by the House on trumped up charges would be viewed as crass partisanship unless there was a solid chance of a Senate conviction. The House may still do it... they're batshit crazy and care more about playing to their ignorant racist base than they do solid responsible leadership. But such an attempt will blow up in their face. I guess the reason they haven't attempted it is there's still a handful of GOP Congressmen who realize that.
