Ahmed abu Khattalah, the suspected ringleader of the attack in Benghazi who was just captured by U.S. forces, said he was motivated by the anti-Islam online video made in America.
In private conversations, Khattala told other Libyans during the night of the attack that he was moved to attack the diplomatic mission to take revenge for an insult to Islam in an American-made online video.

Every right wing talking point has been blown out of the water today. Watch how they spin this because it doesnt fit their narrative. Darrell Issa is probably in a fetal position in the corner of his office, sucking his thumb right now.

The plan was to 'Carterize' Obama before the elections just like 1980 Iran.
They also wanted to erase the real 9/11 and replace it with the Libyan one.
Turn on Chris Hayes - Former Ambassador Joe Wilson is discussing this,

The level of sabotage meted out to the Obama administration at home and abroad is frightening - I won't even mention the waste of taxpayers money for their phony hearings.

At the Corner, Jack Fowler posts a truly horrible Photoshop of Obama and Carters faces merged. An extra photoshop treat from Rich and Lucy, the super cool folks at TerrellAfterMath (which you should visit regularly!). You really, really should visit at least once, if not regularly.
On a similar note, the Weekly Standards Daniel Halper posts a video mashup of Obama and Carter talking about foreign policy in order to prove that both Carter and Obama thought their opponents would be less good at foreign policy than them.
Commentarys Charlie Siering makes the same point with words (plus the same video) in a Washington Examiner column: Obamas remarks, however, echo frequent criticisms made by President Jimmy Carter of Ronald Reagan, then his opponent for the presidency.
American Thinker editor and publisher Thomas Lifson says Obama is starting to look a lot like Jimmy Carter twisting in the wind as Iranians held hostages in Tehran in 1979.
Back at the Corner, Victor Davis Hanson shows some restraint by not mentioning Carters name while calling it 1980 redux. Peter Kirsanow follows up by making the point explicit, for the slower readers: There are many similarities between Carter and Obama.
And again at the Corner (theyre flooding the Obama is Carter zone!) Alexander Bernard, managing director of an advisory and investment firm focused on the Middle East and Central Asia, notes some eerie parallels between Obama and Carter.
The Weekly Standards Geoffrey Norman says now we have Stagflation again!
Then some Washington Times reporter called up some Republican operatives and asked them to compare Obama to Carter for a story about how Republicans are comparing Obama to Carter.

(1,638 posts)"Mr. Abu Khattala, 41, wearing a red fez and sandals, added his own spin. Contradicting the accounts of many witnesses and the most recent account of the Obama administration, he contended that the attack had grown out of a peaceful protest against a video made in the United States that mocked the Prophet Muhammad and Islam."
Found the link on a right-wing site that was saying how suspicious it was that The Times was reporting it now, but didn't mention it back in this 2012 article (where they...mentioned it).

(1,325 posts)It seems my hypothesis was slightly correct. I wrote earlier that the terrorists used the protests to provide cover for their attack that they had already planned for. Apparently, they decided to plan and attack within days of learning about the silly video.

And vice versa.
If you got a group of left-wing/liberal people from the United States together with a group of left-wing/liberal people from the Middle East I feel quite good about the prospects of everyone getting along.
It almost seems like right-wing, conservative, fundamentalist ideology is the problem here. Everywhere.

(21,528 posts)Well, we all knew spin was coming from the right, and here it news... I was watching the local Fox affiliate news this mornnig and they had on a Fox national guy to talk about the capture of the suspect. What do you think the focus of the discussion was on? will fox try to spin this? Yes they will!
The discussion focused on WHY it took so long to capture this guy. He said the raid took the White House months to plan and that the suspect was basically not hiding and was in an place where he could be caught easily (what place that was, i don't know). So there you go. That will now be the media's focus on this story. Everything else will be swept aside including the GOP witch-hunt and the narrative will now be that Obama could have captured this dangerous criminal at any time but instead chose to delay taking action, which of course endangers americans.
