Take Action: North Ridgeville, Ohio Animal Control Policies Need to Change

In June 2013, just one year ago exactly, you helped us confront an unbelievable tragedy in North Ridgeville, Ohio—where “Humane” Officer Barry Accorti killed five kittens. “The woodpile five,” as they came to be known, were shot in a resident’s backyard while children watched. Together, we brought national attention to the incident and thought we’d reached a resolution.

But just last week, the same humane officer was at it again. Almost a year to the day, Accorti trapped a defenseless baby raccoon and shot and killed her in the cage, again with children as an audience.

Click the link to take action.

Please join us in calling for the dismissal of Humane Officer Barry Accorti and his supervisor Police Chief Michael Freeman.

I am not for guns, but these pests need to be felt with.

I have to check the yard before letting the dog out, we get woke up regularly by the varmints in the back yard tearing up patio furniture and anything else.

If I had a gun, I might sit out there at night and shoot them myself.

He was wrong for shooting the cats, but not these animals, they are a problem.

That was part of the point.

We have several raccoons in our yard every night. They come to eat bird food that falls out of the bird feeders. Our rat terrier got into it once with one we didn't see. The motion light usually lets us know they are out there. Trip to the vet. And a few patio cushions had damage over the years.

The listing for our house when we bought it included say "Be with nature, the deer, the racoons,..."

Farther into town they live in the storm drains.

I saw people shooting at rats at the illegal dump. Doesn't mean I agree with kids today seeing animals shot in front of them. Exception might be for kids that are already hunting.

A bad shard from a ricochet could have been disastrous for the kids.

You would swear you were driving through a very red neck state. If they could they would all have guns hanging in their pickup windows.

This whole thing is started by one woman, not related to the incident or the children who witnessed the incident stirring trouble with North Ridgeville.

What they saw isn't anything more than a kid growing up in rural Nebraska or Iowa (where I did) would see. This town has far bigger problems than worrying about this.

Last month 50% of the home in the town were flooded by sewer water because the city hooked storm drains connected to sanitary sewers. And if you don't own a 4x4, driving in the city is hard to do.
