Rachel Maddow slams media use of John McCain & warmongers

by Egberto Willies

Rachel Maddow let it all out in a very long, uninterrupted piece last night on her MSNBC show. The video above extracted most of the telling snippets to allow quick digestion. Maddow calling out the media yet again is more urgent now. After all, the right wing along with the favorites of the military industrial complex are beating the war drums circa the lead up to the 2003 Iraq War.

Maddow starts with the hypocrisy of the two major right-wing outlets, the Drudge Report and Fox News. These pseudo-news properties have been hyping the Benghazi attacks continuously, month after month, day after day. Yesterday the mastermind of the Benghazi attack, Ahmed Abu Khatallah, was caught. The headline on the Drudge Report became a rise in chicken prices. Fox News treated the capture as orchestrated to help Hillary Clinton.

The most telling part of the piece was John McCain. McCain over the past several years has seemed to be on every side of every issue. Maddow showed Republicans falling in line behind McCain to taint the capture of Khatallah by stating he should be taken to Guantanamo instead of the United States. McCain evidently forgot that he stated just the opposite several times. He advocated closing Guantanamo. He advocated bringing terrorists to the United States for trial.

Maddow then segued to the media using an inconsistent McCain and other "experts" that were completely wrong about the Iraq War. Her frustration was palpable. This is likely the same frustration Americans feel about the media. Why would they use "experts" that were provably wrong to inform Americans on possible steps to take in Iraq?

All is not lost. Maddow notes that many media outlets are on their game. As opposed to the lead up to the 2003 Iraq War, there is much more pushback. Americans will have to stay vigilant. The drumbeat to war is on again. It has the power of many in the media along with the pawns of the military industrial complex ready to misinform.

That the GOP has the ability to deny reality, so to does the modern media. Drama sells. People want to see shocking news. They want familiar faces to wow them every day. We need the fairness doctrine to balance the message with sanity.

- There's really only one answer. It's the same one no one wants to say out loud.

...was Bradshaw just a football player, he has forever been labeled a dumbass one. His 'hale-fellow-well-met' still plays well with the other jocks on the NFL pre-game show, but it's pathetic when you're talking about something serious. I look forward to, at least, one of the other 'on-screen' jocks calls him out on this. Then again, they're all probably just as idiotic.
