I've got to put this out there because it has been bothering me for a while now:

There has been this trend, at least on blogs, forums and facebook posts, to latch onto anything and everything that might appear to be even slightly sexist or chauvinistic and to commit every possible knee-jerk reaction possible to it.

The end result tends to be that those who are already of the misogynist mindset get additional reasons to buy into their blind hatred/anger/fear, and those of us who actually support gender equality and fairness… those of us who might consider ourselves feminists, end up feeling the indirect wrath of those who are committing that knee-jerk reaction.

It is a bit like watching a missile launch, and knowing you’re not the intended target, but also knowing it won’t matter because the intended target happens to be in close physical proximity… so that even if you don’t get hit directly, surviving the blast radius of the explosion is dicey at best.

This isn’t to say to those guys and gals who’re fighting against injustice to slow down or stop. Please, maintain that fight! We need gender equality and fairness yesterday. But also please be aware that those of us on your side are susceptible to friendly fire.
